So we went to DLR yesterday for my b-day and because of a tip I had received on the boards, we went to guest services at DCA (which i found out is actually called guest relations) to get my birthday fun card since I heard the line there is shorter than the one next to DL. Well, according to the CM there, they don't do any of the b-day stuff on that side and she also couldn't renew our APs. It wasn't a big deal but I was surprised since several people had mentioned about going over to that side in order to avoid a longer line. So either I got bad info here :sad1: or the CM was clueless. :confused3

After that little mix-up in the morning, we had a great time. Here's some highlights from our mini-trip:

We spent the day at DCA since my parents were with us and wanted to ride TSMM. They didn't want to get park hoppers since we weren't going to be there very long.

We walked on to all the bug's land rides which was nice since I don't like waiting very long for those ones. The big news was that DS "graduated" to the 40" mark. He's barely 40" but they let him ride Soarin'. He liked parts of it but was nervous about the whole thing so not sure we'll be going on it again any time soon. For the rest of the day he kept talking about the fireworks they showed at the end of the movie so he really liked that part. Last night I asked him what his favorite ride was and he said "the big movie ride" (a.k.a soarin') so I asked him if he wanted to go on it again sometime and he said "no, no!". I guess he has mixed feelings about it.

I was forced by DH to go on GRR even though it was my b-day and that is not my favorite ride. I like the ride but don't like to get wet. Of course, I ended up getting wetter than DH did. I think he's trying to pay me back for when i convinced him to go on splash even though he hates that ride and then I made him sit in the very front so I could hide behind him. :rotfl:

We had a great lunch at Wine Country Tratoria. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. I had the lasagna, DH had the meatball sandwich and my parents had chicken paninis.

As we were leaving the park, we stopped in at the pin store (PT's flea market?) and were looking around. While we were there the CM got everyone's attention and said he had a trivia question for us. He asked "In Bug's Life, what is the name of the ladybug?". The answer was fresh in my mind since we rode the ladybug ride earlier so I called out "Francis!". I won a pin! It has goofy and pluto with some mickey balloons. It says AAA on the back so I'm guessing it's from an old promotion and he needed a way to get rid of it. So that was fun winning something!

It was a little crowded yesterday but nothing horrible. TSMM was a 40 min wait most of the afternoon though so that was kind of a bummer having to wait that long especialy since DS is 4 and it's hard for him to be in that long of a line. Oh, and then there's the issue of the group of 2 in front of us that turned into a group of 8 by the time we got to the front. But overall we had a great time.

Glad you had fun! Happy Birthday! I can't speak to the guest relations at DCA, but I did go to guest relations in DL and it was way faster than City Hall.

We were there on Monday for my DS9 and were told the same thing:confused3. When we went to City Hall in DL, a wonderful CM explained the mixup to me. The windows outside DCA are Corporate "Guest Relations Services. They are only there for tours and media. If you go inside DCA and go to Guest Services you can pick up your birthday gift card and renew your AP. They do not have a camera there, so you will not be able to take your picture.

Guest Relations = Does not handle money or ticketing.

Guest Services = Handles money and ticketing.

Wendy is right. The DCA Guest Services that everyone mentions is INSIDE the DCA gates, and can process AP renewals if no new pic is needed.

I'm glad you had fun!! Happy Bday a day late!! :)

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! And thanks DangerMouse and Wendy for the explanations about guest services. I'm sure I was probably told to go inside the gate but since we went to guest services at DL for DH's b-day and that is outside the gate, that is what I had in my mind. Now the CM at guest relations could have been more helpful by telling me I could go inside DCA to do it but she only directed me to DL's guest services or City Hall.

Oh and one other thing I forgot to mention is that I love the location of the DCA Christmas tree. It was up on the boardwalk type area near Ariel's Grotto/Cove Bar. I don't remember one being there last year. I only remember the one on top of the planter which isn't there this year because of the construction. Well, weather it was a new location or not I still liked the way it looked in that area.

Glad you had fun and how neat to win a pin! When we got DH's birthday card, we went inside DCA. There was no line at all. And how neat to ride Soarin too! It will be interesting to see if he wants to go on it next time he's there. Does 40 inches get you on any other rides he might want to do? It has been a long time since I had to think about height so I don't know what min. different rides are.

Yeah, i thought it was fun to win something.

40" seems to be the height for a lot of rides like space and BTMRR but since he can't handle gadget's go coaster we won't try the big ones yet. I was wondering if he might like the jumpin jellyfish ride so we might try that sometime. I have a feeling he won't want to go on Soarin' again for awhile. We all keep asking him about it and although he says he liked it and had fun he also says he doesn't want to go on it again.

How weird! I absolutely DID get my birthday card at DCA in June, and I would have sworn up and down that it was "Guest Services", but my photo proves different, heh.

I remember it very well because a woman was there complaining very vocally about an experience she had (I think in the Electrical Parade) the entire time I was there. No line, though!

As for your son, I didn't care for Soarin' much the first time, but the second or third (I forget which) was MUCH better, as I remembered enough of the ride that it didn't feel nearly as intense as it had the first time. Of course I wouldn't push him to go on a ride that scares him, but he might find it better the second time. :)

OK, please tell the story of why you took that picture! :)

I can never remember which is which, so I just remember that I was inside DCA when I got my funcard.

And outside DCA for lost and found, which is next to the windows where people were picking up their Club 33 tickets. It's all so confusing...:teacher:

Glad to hear they are still doing the FC inside at DCA. We did it twice this year in Jan. and Feb. and I posted about it here. Happy to know they didn't change it.

Happy belated birthday!

Ooops, sorry; I must have missed this thread. :flower3: When I go to the parks I try to take at least one picture at/of everything I do, so I can REMEMBER everything I attend/do. Which means I end up with some horrible pictures sometimes (and some restroom signs/interiors!). But that one's not too bad. ;)

(And I thought it was pretty, since I love art deco. :) )
