Pixie Dust, the parakeet I've had for about 10 years now, is dying. :sad1:

My family and I were watching tv when we noticed that she was lying on the botton of her cage. My dad thought that she might just be caught on something so he put his hand in to see if she had a claw caught on the little net thing we have around the bottom of the cage to catch the bird seed in, but she wasn't caught on anything.

She's just laying on the bottom of the cage now and panting really hard and it's killing me. I can't stand to watch ANYTHING be tortured. Not even in horror movies, where I know that it's fake. I just...can't handle watching things suffer in any way, shape, or form when there's nothing I can do to help them. :sad1:

I know that she's lived a long life for a bird...and that she'll be in a better place...but it's still hard. Knowing that I won't hear her screech anymore every time my dad comes near her...or her overly-loud chirping that drives my sister crazy when she's trying to watch tv.

I'll miss her so much. :guilty:

I'm very sad to hear about your bird dying :guilty: its horrible when you've had an animal for so long and then go, I know how you feel

It doesn't matter how long you had your bird (or any pet) for, the pain is the same when they die. I'm so very sorry. Bless your sweet little bird.

I hate hearing about people losing their pets. We had parakeets before but they never lived that long. My brother now has a parrot and I've come to see how much personality birds have.

If you ever need to talk, PM me. I recently lost a pet as well.

That is so sadd.
I am free to talk anytime.

I had a guinea pig, and he died in my arms.

Thank you all so much for the comforting words and 's . I really appreciate it and it really does make me feel a little bit better to know that there are people out there that understand what this feels like.

Pixie Dust died around 12:30 am. Thursday morning. My mom was there the whole time, trying to comfort her as much as she could. I did the same thing when Tweety, the bird we had before Pixie, passed. He was such a dork. As I'd walk by his cage, he would chirp like crazy and follow me around by climbing on the bars. He'd also bite everyone in the family....EXCEPT for me. After he died we got Pixie and she was a lot shier than he was. She had an attitude tho and if anyone bugged her at all, she'd be sure to let them know. She'd also yell at people if they fought around her. She did not like that at all. Baby-sitter much?!

I didn't know her passing would affect me this hard, but it did. When I got home from the school the next day I saw her cage sitting on top of the closed trash can. I almost lost it right then and there...but I tried my best to contain myself at least until I was able to get somewhat away from my family so they wouldn't notice and feel worse than they already did. It was just hard for me to see the cage completely empty...but still have all of Pixie's toys in it. And then the thought of us never getting another bird crossed my mind...and we've had them for as long as I can remember. When we still lived in Cali, we had FOUR. Then after we moved we got Tweety and after he died we got Pixie. All of them parakeets...and my babies.

My mom did end up noticing tho....being the nosey person she is...and called my dad. Less than an hour later we were headed to the pet store to get another bird. Well...actually...we ended up getting THREE. A blue one with a yellow face (who looks almost exactly like Tweety did, only smaller because it's just a baby yet), a yellow one and a white one.

And, just to show how just how much of a Disney Dork I am...I named the Yellow one "Bibbiti", the Blue one "Bobbity" and the White one "Boo". Although these three will NEVER replace Pixie, they do make her death a little easier to deal with. The house won't be so deathly quiet anymore and I'll have three little babies to keep my mind off her passing.

I just hope she's ok now. In Heaven with Tweety, Cherokee, and the three others (who's names I can't remember because I was so young when we had them). Enjoying the fresh air and being fed so much millet and treats that she doesn't know what to do with them all.

Rest in Peace, Pixie Dust. I'll never forget you.

Aww. I've been thinking of you and your bird since you posted. I'm glad you are feeling a little better. Nothing can replace the animals you've lost, but new ones do help and give you something to love.

I like their names by the way!
