Okay, here’s the story:

My friend, Tara, was supposed to have a FTW back in May 2006. But, unfortunately, she and her fiancé keep experiencing set backs and can’t set a real date. I won’t go into all the details, but it has been pretty disheartening for them.

Now enter… Me! :D Since I’m her MOH, I’ve been helping her with all the planning stuff she’s done so far. Plus, I’m going to do some of the favors, welcome bag stuff, etc. So anyway… She sends me pics of flowers, favors, dresses, etc. that she likes all the time, so I have them on my laptop. She wants to have a princess-ish wedding using the colors ‘Cinderella blue’, pink, and purple. Here are some of her inspiration bouquet pics that she has sent me recently to give you an idea:

The thing that she goes on all the time about is her cake. (Or should I say cakes, she wants to do the mini cakes for each person!) Her inspiration was Janet2k’s mini Mickey cakes:

(This is not my pic! It is Janet2k’s pic from her planning session!)

Tara wants hers to be really princess-looking, with little purple flowers sticking out of it, pearls, etc. She drew a really good picture of one and showed it to me about a month ago. I wish I had a scanner!

Anywho, a couple of weeks ago, I was [desperately trying to] organize my seed beads, and came across some packs of beads in her colors! I had them set aside for a couple of days because I planned on making her a little something to cheer her up. It occurred to me one day while driving home from work that I should make her a little beaded wedding cake! So for the past week and a half, I have been working on this:

The Princess Garden Mini Mickey Wedding Cake

It has a Cinderella blue base with a pearl trim, a pink Mickey cake topper, and some little purple flowers poking out of it!

I think mine is a bit smaller than a real mini wedding cake – mine’s about 3 inches tall including the Mickey topper (which can be removed if she wants). I didn’t have a copy of the picture that she drew to work with, but I’m pretty sure it looks just like her picture.

It was a really fun project although there were several times I wanted to just throw the whole thing out the window – along with all those blue beads! LOL

I would really like some feedback about it from other Disney brides. I haven’t decided if it’s silly or not. Personally… I love it! Normally I don’t brag about my crafts, but I’m just so proud of it! (I’m even thinking of making myself one, using my wedding colors – except with a Cinderella’s Castle cake topper. I think I would have an easier time now that I have finished one. :) ) But I’m not sure if it’s a good gift or not. I mean, I think it would be, but I’m just not 100% positive.

Any kind of feedback from you guys would be great! Do you guys think it matches the flowers okay? I'm having so many second thoughts now! (Maybe it's just because I want to keep it for myself! :teeth:)

Anyway, please let me know what you think!!! :goodvibes

Amanda, that's very cute and creative! I'm sure she would love it. If my MOH made something like that for me, I would :goodvibes

i LOVE THE FLOWERS & the colors, very pretty

THose mini bead cakes are amazing..lots of work & it shows.

You did good & you know what they say about handmade items, they are worth more than the most expensive things around cause you put your heart into it!

Very cool...your a great MOH:thumbsup2

Those are super cute. I would never be able to do anything like that myself-- even the bottom of the cake-- much less mickey ears. Way to go. I think she will see how much you care about her and how much you think about her!!

I know just how you feel - I always end up having second thoughts about gifts I make for people!

I think those bead-cakes are just so cute! I would be really touched if my MOH did that for me, as it would let me know she understood how important my ideas are to her.

I think it's a lovely gift and I am sure she will love it!

Well done you for being so clever! :cheer2:

That is so cute!! It's very creative and shows that you really care about her. If it's been a bumpy road, this would surely be something to keep her similng!

it's very cute and thoughtful! I'm sure she will love it! :goodvibes

That's adorable, and creative! I'm sure that she will always treasure it as a wedding keepsake. And I think her colors, and flowers are gorgeous!

Okay! I'm going to give it to her when I see her on Friday! Thanks so much for your encouragement! Now I'm really excited about giving it to her!

Now all I need to do is figure out a cute way to present it to her... Any ideas??? A small cake box maybe?

DisneyDork712, in trying to find one of my threads, this one of yours came up during my search. And I'm so glad it did. I loved the beaded mini-cake that you created. Too cute for words!

If you're still around the Dis boards, please let me know what your friend thought of the beaded mini-cake when you presented it to her. Also let me know what sort of gift packaging you used (did you go with a cake box?). You are very creative!

Hello!

First of all, I just want to say that I really love reading all your reports and plans on here! You're such a great writer! I love all of the pictures and details that you add! Wonderful! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for the compliment! I'm so glad you like the beaded cake! I loved making it - even though it did seem to take forever! lol

For the packaging, I ended up taking the cake to a local cake decorating supply shop, and had them order some small clear acrylic boxes for me. I put some of that white crinkle paper in the bottom of the box, to give it some cushioning, and sat the cake on top of it. After the cake was in, I added a bit more crinkle paper around the base to make it look nice. Then, I tied purple organza ribbon around the box, made a bow at the top, and added a little pink Mickey head shaped tag with a little note on it. I put that whole thing down in a cardboard box before I gave it to her - so she would be more surprised!

Tara really loved it! She cried when I gave it to her, and kept saying, "Oh my gosh, it's my cake, it's my cake!" :goodvibes It made me feel really happy! Right now she has it setting up in her kitchen, on one of those little tiered dessert servers!

DisneyDork712, you are too kind. I'm glad the information that I have shared here on the Dis has helped.

I found it amusing when your thread popped up during my search this evening (I still haven't found the thread that I was originally looking for - arg!). When I read your thread and saw the adorable beaded mini-cake, I had to let you know that I thought it was the cutest thing ever. I'm glad you're still hanging around the Dis so my post wasn't in vain!

You're quite welcome. Again, I thought the beaded cake was too cute for words -- especially with that adorable pink Mickey (or Minnie!) Mouse ears atop it! :earsgirl:

Again, more creativity on your part. WOW! If you have a photo of how it looked all wrapped up, please share. It sounds wonderful.

How sweet! I would have cried, too. Heck, I've got goosebumps just writing this post to you. I can honestly imagine how touched Tara was by your thoughtfulness & kindness. You're a wonderful friend.

Again, thank you for sharing your beaded mini-cake with us. And if you have any more photos to share (for example, of the packaging that you mentioned), please share it!
