Tons of them, actually. "My bad" is certainly one of them. I hate the too-hip-for-the-room phrases like "I'm trying to wrap my mind around that". Uuugggg!
I started a rant thread about this a long time ago. The one that really annoyed me at the time was "back in the day." I just HATE this phrase and I always want to say, "Which day? June 12, 1958?"
a phrase that drives me nuts is (I assume) a local new england phrase, "so don't I." I've only heard a handful of people use it, but it drives me nuts...they mean, "so do I." I love my mil, she's a wonderful woman, but omg, she says it often and its one of those things that makes zero sense to me. lol.
I just realized this was a hip thing to say. I thought it was a type O on the boards. I do not like it at all. Now I'm hearing middle age men say it. lol
Blame it on Alicia Silverstone. Until she said it in "Clueless", nobody had really ever heard it I don't think. She started a sort of new "Valley Girl" trend with phrases like:
Oops..my bad!
I'm outtie!
Buggin'
Way (whatever)
And those are only the ones I can come up with right now.
Me, I love the phrase "My Bad". Use it all the time! But what I can't stand is when my neighbor's wife goes "Shoot!" and he goes "Bangbang!" witha ' gun' made out of his fingers. That drives me crazy.
