My son who is now 5 had his adenoids and tonsils taken out and tubes put in both ears right after his second birthday.....I understand how you feel. You are in my prayers.

:grouphug: Glad to hear you are home and all is well. I DO remember the meds wearing off. I think that was the hardest part except for when he woke up in the hospital and bit the nurse!:scared1:

Glad it all went well.

Forget the cleaning. Visitors are coming to see you and your little one :)

Take care

Thanks all. Today is day 6 and is doing much better.

His throat really hasn't bothered him much at all. He has eaten since day 1.

His tummy (where he got the skin graft) is bothering him some and he complains of his hands. Both are bandaged so well that he doesn't have use of his hands at all right now. That is frustrating him.

But he is up and running around and seems fine other than every few hours complaining of pain.

some hints

my DS got sick of taking his tylonal with codine after about 2 days and the worst days are like day 6-8

mix it half with hersheys chocolate syrup and he started taking it again... as for eating popcycles get dull. we made smoothys and I put in powdered lactobacillis (to help fight infection and fight off the bad effects of antibiotics just in case) and ground up flintstones

For my kid he always barfed all the tiem cause his tonsils were in the way of eating so it was a struggle to get him to eat any food... cooked pasta was great while he was healing too

goodluck =) glad he is ok

Thanks Julie,

We actually haven't had to limit his food types. He is eating everything without complaint.

It is more his hands (and tummy from the graft) that he is complaining about.

I'm glad the surgery went well! :)

My ds6 was supposed to have surgery in 2 weeks, but the surgeon just postponed it for a few more months. Seems they are bringing in a specialist to assist with the surgery. Makes me feel comfortable that an expert is going to be doing the surgery, but also makes me anxious that ds problem is so severe that an expert has to do the surgery. kwim? Anyway, the other surgeon can't make it in until the summer, so we have a few more months of waiting.

I read that your ds is up and running around. Always a good sign when a child is running around. :) :)

Keep us updated.

so glad your little one is on the mend. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers!!

Just reading this thread now and am so very happy to hear that your son is doing well. My youngest (one half of a set of 10 yr. twins) is having his 11th surgery on the 22nd of this month. Most have been on his left hand/forearm. He also had a skin graft done when he was just a few months old.

It's very difficult for children not to have the use of their hands, so don't be too surprised to get kicked alot, not hard, not mean, just the only thing they have to communicate affection with. During one surgery/hospital stay, my son (God Bless Him) kicked me for a week straight, but hey, he's mine and it's okay.

You need to remember that children are very resilient and heal much faster than adults. Don't be surprised if when his bandages are removed, he moves his fingers without much if any complaint, he doesn't know they should be stiff and sore, he only knows that those darn bandages are off and he can use his fingers again. A tip: when he is ready for therapy, get a tupperware container of rice and put some beads, buttons and, coins in for him hunt for. It was always one of my son's favorite "games".

As for the skin graft, make up an exotic story about it. My son has a large scar under his left arm and we made up story about how brave he was to survive a "shark" attack. At ten, he now makes up his own stories about the different scars he has. We always tell him, they are badges of honor for survivors who are brave and strong.

It's always harder on Mom but have faith, sleep when you can, and drink plenty of coffee. PEACE
