I seem to recall something about a parade but I could be totally off. Anyone care to fill in those of us who do not know?

I only kind of understand it, but only because I'm reading this book called the Shroud of the Thwacker (which is hillarious!) and mummers play a big part of the story.

I'm not sure I totally grasp the concept though...

I lived in and near Philly, and I don't "get' it either!



But, to tell you what it is, it is a parade, held on NY Day, that has string bands dressed up in fancy costumes. Kind of a Mardi Gras w/o the whole "beads" thing.

I think you eitehr love it or hate it.... not much middle ground.

I used to live on the parade route for the Alsascia Mummer's Parade, the largest night time parade on the East Coast. It was the excuse for the huge party at my house.

When I moved away from that place, a lot of my friends were hoppin mad-it was so cool to see the Mummers and the Shriners with their cars.

Yes I do, and I miss seeing them on tv, have not seen the parade listed for about 5 years now.

yes I have been subjected to that parade since I was young. It is torture for me. Not a mummer fan. But I live just north of Philly so no avoiding it.

I hate those parades on TV. If I became the PA Governor my first order of business would be to ban all Mummers and all Mummer's parade for all time.

Sure do! Half the extended family is born and bred South Philly. At selected family gathering if someone plays "oh, those golden slippers" half the group is up doing the Mummer's strut - and this is without alcohol!
