Guess the expense of her Samantha doll was worth it. The other day her and her 9yo sis took their dolls to show grandma:lovestruc Then DD12 was looking on ebay for a fancy dress for her Samantha since she only has the plain dress that she came with and we were outbid. I would have gave it to her for her birthday. She might want the skating dress at the NY store when she goes in with her dad.

I can remember playing with Barbies age 12 so it's nice that DD12 is still loving her doll:)

Be thankful your daughter still has some little girl in her. I work in a doctors office and I have seen some 12 yr olds dressed like 19yr olds.:scared1: One even has blue contacts to make her blue eyes look bluer:confused3 Count your blessings. You are lucky;)

My dd is too! She's 12 1/2. She want AG stuff for Christmas but I'm not sure about getting that. :confused3 Fortunately she has one friend who is still into playing with her AG too. :goodvibes

Mine is 11 and lost interest when she was 9. She isn't into toys at all. But, like the other pp said, I wouldn't worry about it, and yes be thankful she still has some child left in her.

Although my DD doesn't play with toys, she is still pretty much a tomboy, Thankfully. Has no real interest in growing up or acting older than she is. I do see girls that are doing way more than they should at 13. I say count your blessings.

My 13yo DD sat with my DD8 many times this summer while she played with her American Girl Dolls. She was helpin her sis you know ;)

OP, glad your DD still enjoys them, they are so beautiful and I enjoy them along with my girls. princess:

Sounds like my girls. The oldest loves dolls more than the younger.
So she and her little sis often *hide out* in their rooms to play dolls.

And why not? Society forces our kids to grow up way too quickly.
Home is a safe place for everything else so how wonderful our kids can still be children, at least at home.:thumbsup2

I think it's a wonderful thing. If you're not on agplaythings.com, check it out. Lots of girls her age (and "big girls" alot older too :) sharing their AG love.

My DD will be 10 this weekend, and I'm hoping she'll stick with her AG for a while to come. I'm thrilled she is playing something age-appropriate and not rushing off to be a teenager in elementary school.

I had to chuckle at OP saying Samantha was "worth it" to get. We made the same comment with the first big lego set we got DS, and the subsequent ones every Christmas. He's 14, still plays with them daily. He often uses them for school projects and has aspirations of being a professional Lego designer/builder. (To the point of having corresponded with their HR in Denmark about opprotunities, qualifications, etc.) No need to put away the toys, never know where it will lead :)

My DD will be 12 this month. She bought Kit with her 11th birthday money. Then DD9 scrambled to buy Ruthie. I was hoping that once they both had one, they would play with them. Unfortunately, Kit and Ruthie spend most of their time in their beds, while the Barbies and the Build A Bears dominate play time. They spend hours playing pretend with those. Maybe they will get into AG yet. They like the magazine, and like their dolls, and want all the stuff in the catalogs, but they just aren't getting used yet.

DD9 is very lucky to have a big sister who plays with her, and wants to. DD12 is still very much a kid but that doesn't stop her from begging for a cell phone! :rotfl:

This is all so sweet! My DD will be turning 2 next month and I picked up a Bitty Baby at a yard sale that just needs to have its eyes replaced at the Doll Hospital which I will do soon. I was thinking of waiting to give it to her for her 3rd birthday but now I'm reconsidering because she latched onto a baby doll at her daycare and they let her "borrow" it...3 weeks later it's still in her bed and if I try to return it I think she'll freak. She says, "My baby." :goodvibes

This was me. I have a sister 4 years younger, and as I got older I'd always "help" her with her toys. ;)

I got an AG Molly doll when I was 9, and played with her and asked for things for her for Christmas/birthdays until I was 13-14. Even after I was in high school, Molly remained "on display" in my room and I'd sometimes change her clothes or brush her hair. And now that I'm 30 I have 5 AG dolls and still do the same thing. :rotfl:

DD will be 13 in Jan and she still plays with her AG dolls too! She loves them and has them all displayed in her room. She wants Lanie for Xmas this year and has a couple of outfits on her list too. I love that she still loves them. I often play with them with her!:rotfl: it's just so much fun doing their hair and dressing them in those cute outfits!

My DD11 is still playing with her AG dolls almost every day. So are her friends! They come over and play in her room for hours. For us I think it has to do with the accessories we have - we make a lot of our own clothes, food, and things like that, so we have different things then what you'd get on AG.

She's asked for a TON of stuff for Christmas as well. I'm waiting for the special sales they have around thanksgiving online!!

However DD8 has a Bitty Twin Girl and Kit and she barely plays with them. For some reason she's asked for the Bitty Twin Boy for Christmas, but I don't see that happening!

I agree!!! We had a patient in our office yesterday with "booty" shorts that were so short and tight, I don't know how she got them zipped. Then a low cut tank with a push up bra! French nails completed the picture, I looked at the chart and she was 13! What was her mother thinking?
My DD got her last AG dolls at 12 but still has them displayed in our spare room. Even though she didn't really play with them, she liked to dress and display them, we get them out at Christmas and put them around their small tree dressed in Christmas finery with little gifts, it looks really cute.

.

Thats about when my daughter lost interest too- Barbies went out even before that. I was glad the barbies didn't stick around- I always hated them as a kid too!! My daughter has 3 american girl dolls that just sit on a chair and get dusty. We are having a yard sale next weekend so I will see if she wants to put some of the accessories out to sell likethat big bathtub that takes up to much space!!
