a curious thing happened to me at alamo this time.

i arrived in orlando at 8:30 PM on sunday october 14th

normally when i'm on my own or with one or two other people, i reserve an economy car, but for this trip i decided i'd need something somewhat bigger for the drive to and from our cruise (so there would be room for suitcases for my mom, sister and me).

So i reserved a midsize SUV.
it seemed it would be big enough and still not too expensive.

so i went to the alamo desk, handed in my drivers license, signed for my midsize SUV and headed out to pick out my car.
in the parking lot, i handed my contract to one of the alamo reps and he said "i don't have any midsize SUVs, so go ahead and pick any of the mini-vans for the same price.

Mini-van???? those babies are 2 or 3 times the price of the midsize SUVs!!!!
i'd looked at them online as that's what i always rent when i'm with my family, but they were way too expensive for this trip.
But then i ended up with one anyway.
an almost brand new one with only 836 miles on it.

then 3 days later, just when i had to pick up my mom and sister from the airport, i got a warning light that the tire pressure was low.
I was driving to the airport anyway, so i went a little early and brought the car in.
They told me to go pick another one.
So i went to the alamo mini-van aisle, but there weren't any in what i considered to be good shape.
So i came back and said i'd just keep the one i'd had (since they'd told me the tire pressure warning is common in the season change).

so the alamo woman told me to walk over to the national car rental aisles and pick out a mini-van there.
i found a brand new mini-van there with only 12 miles on it!!!

so i of course picked that one. A national car rental car, instead of an alamo car. The same model, just from national. And again a mini-van instead of a midsize SUV.

so that's my story.

I'm wondering if they ever have midsize SUVs there.

i know that when you reserve the smallest car, you actually can end up with the second smallest since they're together in the same aisle - that is, the economy cars and the compact cars are in the same aisle and you're permitted to pick either. So obvioiusly, you're better off reserving the smaller, cheaper one and ending up with the better car.
I wonder if the same is true for the midsize SUV.

anyway, the mini-van was great!! I didn't need all that space, but it was certainly nice to have! :)

I'm picking up a car from Alamo on Tuesday and I have booked an intermediate SUV - how big is a mini-van??:rolleyes1
