My airfare went down this morning

I decided yesterday morning to book our airfare because I was getting antsy and nervous, it did not look like any specials would be offered by Southwest for our flights...so I booked at $240 RT from Hartford to MCO on 9/28 - 10/4

This morning low and behold the flights went down....I was nervous cancelling and rebooking because I had never done that...but it worked out fine and I rebooked with the same exact flight numbers/times and our new RT airfare is $135 RT.

I will use the remainder of my travel funds towards my ticket purchase for my November trip.

I just about fell over when I read your post this morning!!! I replied to your post yesterday. What rotten luck...lol!!!

It's great that you were able to rebook. Did you do this all online? Or did you have to call SW?

I never got around to getting my plane tix yesterday. I plan on doing it today or tomorrow. Now I'm wondering if I should wait a few extra days.

I'm going to be checking SW all day today.

Mary

HI Mary,
I went to the Southwest site and through Travel Tools, first I cancelled our flights and then I rebooked.

I'm not really too bummed because I am flying down in November with my sister, her husband and my hubby so I will just use the remainder of my travel credits towards that fare.

I did the same thing this morning. You don't have to cancel first (unless it's a ding) just go to travel tools, then change my flight, put in reservation number and credit card holder that bought the ticket, that way if your flight is gone (or the cheaper fare isn't available), you don't have to make the switch and you still have your original flight. I was only able to switch one way. My way down actually went up :thumbsup2

thank you for posting this today. I just went and checked on my dates and while my flight home on Sunday was not available, the next morning had a flight for the $59 price!! I changed it to return home Monday morning instead....I could not pass up that price. DH has a free night at a hotel due to his business travel, so no extra money spent on another night at a hotel either.

I have gone from $522 total (2 people) down to $240 total!!! I am loving SW :woohoo:

the best part is DH has a trip for work next week and I was able to cancel and rebook his flight using my $226 credit (he bought "refundable anytime" tickets so we will get that back) So now we'll get the SW credit back anyway when DH gets reimbursed for his trip!

Thanks so much for posting! I didn't think October fares would go down so soon, so I appreciate the heads up! I just reserved a flight down for my DH & DS to attend a karate tournament... this time they'll fly out of Hartford for 59/each way... so thanks for the heads up, this is great!

Thanks!!!
just booked our flight home (got the ding yesterday for our arrival!!) total for 6 of us nonstop & great times, :cool1: from Providence to Orlando roundtrip $722!!! and I still have a credit!!LOL :yay:

I just cancelled and rebooked our 6 tickets on SW for our August WDW vacation and saved $798!!!

Hi all - I just rebooked 4 RT tix from ALB in August and saved $360! Same flights - anyone been succesful in getting a refund back on the credit card used? I had read that it has been done - I'm afraid I won't be able to use the $360 credit in a year - :scratchin

We are going down on 9/26 from Hartford too! :) Just booked this morning after my neighbor called(at 6am! LOL) and told me prices were $59 one way! :thumbsup2 Couldn't beat that!

Braque - I have been able to get the difference credited back to my CC several times as long as the only change made was in the price. I was told by a Customer Service rep. at Southwest that if there are any changes made to the itinerary you will only get Southwest credit. Give them a call at 214-792-4223. Good luck!

I have been able to do this too. Several weeks ago I changed my flights to a cheaper price. Same flight #, day, time etc, just the price was different. I called the 214 number and was able to get it credited back to the cc.

this time however, I had to cancel and rebook due to a Ding (yesterday) and an itinerary change (today), so I got SW credit instead of a refund.

AAAHHHH!!! Thank you Bowen! I thought it was an Urban Legend that you could get an actual refund of your credit - but SW Refund Representative: Janice was very pleasant, it took all of 3 minutes, and she wished us a happy vacation! :dance3: :disrocks:

I rebooked yesterday with the PVD-MCO Ding that came out. I rebooked the exact same itinerary, though. Would that be "just changes in price"? Or are you talking about going from, for example, "$104 Internet Special" down to a "$59 Internet Special"? Meaning the fare was a drop in the exact category...??? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

I am not overly concerned because I am seriously considering a "Girls Only" trip with the Princesses in November, so I should have no problem using SWA funds.

if you cancelled and rebooked to get the Ding, I don't think you can get a refund. When I got the refund, all I did was go to Travel Center on SW's site, then select "change reservation" then it let me select the new fare. Because I did not cancel and rebook, I was able to get the refund.

I could be wrong....it's worth a call to see. Just be sure to call the customer relations # that begins with 214

I believe that as long as you keep the same date and time, regardless of the fare category, you should be able to get the difference refunded. Although, I'm not sure how it works with a Ding fare because you actually cancelled and rebooked. I have only ever made a change in the reservation. It doesn't hurt to call and ask.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ....I just booked my flights and got a great price roughly 135 RT each and I owe it to you....I'd been looking for September and hadn't seen anything but 280ish EACH RT. UGH! SO AGAIN your the best and I am glad you were able to get the deal too! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I also was able to do the same things yesterday morning. My DH thought I was nuts for checking back everyday. There wasn't a DING fare for our dates out of Hartford (7/7-7/15) so I ended up purchasing 3 tix for $264 RT about a month ago. Then a few days ago I saw the $59 fare, but it wasn't available for our dates. I checked again a few times, and lo and behold....yesterday morning it popped up for our outbound flight for the same flight we originally booked for $59! I, too, was nervous about cancelling and rebooking so I did the trick where you go to the final steps of cancelling one ressie and rebooking the other...until I saw that in the window that I was cancelling, it let me just rebook right then and gave us a credit for the difference!
:cheer2:
My info said we were given a credit and not a refund. It's better than nothing, but I never called to ask an agent about a potential refund! You can bet I'll keep checking back for the return flight!
:wizard:
Good luck to you all!
