So last night I was having uber menstral cramps and I could not get rid of them. I took 3 ibuprofen and drank some dr. pepper (because it was the only thing that had caffeine in it that I had access too.) and laid down and fell asleep.

Welllll, I woke up around 430am and they were alot worse! I seriously could not get out of the fetal position. So I literally crawled over to my roommate and woke her up (bless her heart) and told her I needed a ride to the ER. She immediately freaked out and got dressed and she helped me walk to the car.

We arrive at the ER around 450am, and luckily the wait wasnt too bad. About 15min or so. the nurse called me back and I got up unto the stretcher and they had my take off my top and put the gown on. I was put on the monitor and all of my vitals were normal. Whew. I was asked a bunch of questions and eventually got like 6 vials of blood taken. The ER doc came and examined me. Told me everything else was fine, despite the pain I was having.

She called the OBGYN for a consult and along came with her was a resident and medical student. All 3 were super kind. She pressed on my belly and felt around and said everything looked ok. I got an ultrasound and pap smear done (so yucky!:sad2: ). Those all came back normal too. She told me she couldnt quite figure out why I was having this pain. I told her I had cramps at every cycle but this time it was worse than ever! She ordered me some Vicoden (only 5 pills or so) and told me to make an appt with my regular doc to decide what we should so and to have further testing.

But in the midst of all of this, I guess an old guy who was in the room next to me (we were only divided by a curtin) who coded (meaning he quit breathing and his heart wasnt pumping) so there were a bazillion people there screaming at each other. It was quite interesting and scary all at the same time. It took my focus off of the pain.

I got home around 130pm.
I have an appt with my regular doctor next friday.

ERs suck in the early morning don't they?
 x3943158740-65443952974059745794 Emily! I hope your doctor can figure out what's going on.
6 vials? That's A LOT! But your CBC was okay right?

In the ER there was a Code Blue a few rooms over - I've never seen people run so fast in my life!
Another time there was an old man in the room next to mine. OH MY GAWD! He was moaning so loud, I thought he was dying. It scared the hell out of me.

Yeah my CBC was pretty good. I am borderline anemic. My hemoglobin is 9.6. She said anything < 10 isnt great but if its < 8 then blood products many be needed. So iron supplements it is.

I was at a teaching hospital and so it was like everyone and their mom was there.

Ouch. Good luck with the iron supps, they're nastayyyy.

Yep, I went to a teaching hospital too. Well, I still do.
Biopsy - 3 med students.
Knee Replacement - a team of about 7 med students who did my Foley, drainage tube, etc.
The ER was full of med students and residents too. I remember one time I was so depleted of fluids, and I had this one resident come in. She was very inquisitive, pressing on everything and anything. I freaked out when she started pressing on my liver and "hmmm"ing and "haaaa"ing. I broke down and said "What's going on?! Am I dying? Do I have another tumor?"

Omg Emily

You remind me of me yesterday lol

I was doubled up with pain from menstrual cramps, my worst ever (i was upset cuz i hadnt had cramps since august lol)

i was literally on the floor yesterday but I took Advil and it went away

Maybe it was a cyst that popped and thats why nothing showed up on the ultrasound?? Im glad ur okay though

Wow...that must have been scary. I hate cramps.

Two years ago I had a really rapid heart rate around midnight and I was freaking out. My mom called 911 and the ambulance came. They took me to the ER and I finally got out at like 430. They couldn't really find anything after taking a chest xray and everything. I think what happened was my heart was just beating a bit faster than normal and I felt it and I got really anxious and it just beat faster and faster. I did go to a cardiologist like 2 months later and they did an echo and he said that my heart beat in the lower normal range.

That could be a possibility.

That could definitely be it. I had that several times. I've also had anxiety attacks so bad it felt like I couldn't breathe. It literally felt like I had bricks laying on my chest, and it was so hard just to breathe. It was alllllll due to my anxiety.
If you were dehydrated that could also do it. You'd be amazed at how high your heart rate can go without going into cardiac arrest. I made it to 200 once and by then my nurses were in my room prepared for CA! It was very scary.

Sonya, that sounds super scary! Anything that involves the heart, lungs or brain scares me so much. Well probably because they're vital organs but also if you loose one, the other goes too.

I took my first supplement today and it made me feel strange. Do you know if I can take it with food?

OMG. I would have been so scared if my heartrate went up to 200. :scared1:

I have really bad anxiety. I take zoloft for it but it's still bad. I hate it.

Oh I hate cramps! I can't breath when that happens and my stomach hurts so much!

But the thing I hate the most is bloating. Ugh! Nothing fits! I also don't like the temper tantrums! I yell at everybody two days before and two days after. In the middle it's like my mood has gone non-existent. I have no emotion for 5 days out of the week. The only good thing about it is that I have heavy for 2-3 days then I have light flow, and that's good enough for me!:dance3:

IDK. I don't see why not, in fact in may even help ease your stomach a bit better? I never had anything in my stomach, lol, so I wouldn't know.
Yeah, anything that involves the heart or the brain scares the crap out of me.

Laura, I was on zoloft for a day but it didn't work. I got massively shakey, it was insane. I was on remeron and something else I can't remember the name of.

My mom used to be anemic and she had to take iron pills. They made her feel very nauseous. Try eating a lot of red meat.

I hate the emergency room. Hate. Hate. Hate. For about 2 years I swear I was at the ER about twice a week. Various members of my family were always sick and I always went up there with them. There's tons of sick people moaning, coughing, sneezing, laying on the floor, it's NUTS.

What I hate more though, is ICU. A few members of my family have been in the ICU and me and my mom always stayed and slept in the waiting room. You kind of get to know the other family members, and then they leave because the person died. It was awful.

Oh, you poor thing!! I hate cramps too! I can't imagine them not going away! That must have been really scary! You are really brave!

whoa freaky...

i hope everything's ok

That sounds terrible! I'm glad you're ok.

When I first started my period (~8th grade) It was for around 9 days, super heavy the whole time, and I had cramps the whole time so bad that I couldn't function at all. I occasionally missed school because I could barely move, much less concentrate. It's all lessened up since then, thank God.

The ICU is very scary, especially when you're a patient there. For 3 days. And you're unconcious 97% of the time. Yeah, not too fun.

I hope to never go back there again (for my own health)
