My "adult" child, what to do?

I have a quick question regarding the DDP for the 10 yr old adults. My 10 yr old is a very picky eater and likes to order off the children's menu. If we do the DDP, is he allowed to order from the children's menu and if allowed will they increase the portions to make it worth the adult meal that I will be charged for? I just want to make sure that I am not wasting money with the DDP.

I don't know if they will increase the portions - I think it will really depend on the individual restaurant - but if your child will eat soup or salad then with the table service meals at least he could have that as an appetizer. Though come to think of it, most of the salads had "designer" dressing on them - no choice of ranch, thousand island and french.

If you stick to mostly buffets for your TS, you won't have any problem there but if you're 10 yr old is like my middle DS was at that age, about the only thing he would eat was the standard kid's menu fare and that could be a problem.

You might want to go to allears.net to look at menus before you make your decision.

I took a quick run through of menus at counter service places in the 4 parks and there are plenty of choices that might appeal to your son, if he likes kid menu-type choices. I saw chicken strips, hot dogs and pizza on many of the adult menus and the portions we encountered everywhere were adequate for my teenagers when they ordered pizza and chicken strips.

I hope that helps! :)

Disney's TS restaurant chefs are very accommodating to special dietary requests, even if it is just for something simpler.

My grandson is 12 and a disney adult. Last month we were there for 2 weeks. The restraurants were extremely accommodating. When ordering his meal, he would buy an adult meal and sub things out. For example, he would order the filet mignon with no sauces (or anything fancy). Instead of the fancy mashed potatoes (yuck--with skin or cream cheese) he would ask for a baked potatoe or french fries and he was always accommodated with his request. If he didn't like tha adult desert, he would check out the kid's deserts. Appetizers were never a problem for him as he loves shrimp and everyone has it on their menu, sometimes buffalo wings. He did great, but did have to pay special attention to the menu and how the dish is served. BTW--he did eat ALOT of filet mignon. He does great for the CS too, with choices of burgers or chicken strips and fries, he was always happy!

We just returned and my son (11) did fine w/ the adults menu. As a previous writer mentioned, all of the restaurants were accommodating. When he ordered a salad, he asked to have certain ingredients (i.e. blue cheese) left off and we always got the dressing on the side so he could add it to his taste. If he didn't order the salad, he often ordered the chicken noodle soup (from the kid's menu). In all cases, the adult desserts were too "adult" for him and he was always able to get the kid's dessert or even a bowl of ice cream. My son is not a big kid, but he is a growing boy and there were times that he was famished. To be quite honest, the portions from the kid's CS meals were definitely too small. Ditto for some of the TS dinners as well.
