My AAA Discount Seems Small!

I'm a little disappointed with the savings I got when booking our package through AAA today. I'm wondering if this discount seems right to anyone else who has booked a similar package.

6 nights at the Poly, 2 adults and 1 child 7-day Park Hopper tix, and the Dining Plan came to a total of $3,630. That's only a savings of $264 compared with package prices from Disney and another travel agent. I expected at least a difference of $346, which is 15% off the room portion.

When you take into account the $50 or so it cost to join, it's not that much of a savings. Does anyone else feel this way? :sad2:

Was disappointed also , for April 15-22 7 nights at POR no hopper 6 day passes 2 adults 1 child, no special rooms and dining plan it is 2,591. Last year I received a discount of over 300.00 traveling the same time too. I have a difference of 140.00 from Disney online. I hope this rate changes, possible gliche?? DH not very thrilled I am over the 2,000. mark without airfare, ugh!

We saved $111 for our latest trip. We've been AAA members for many years, so we pay that annual membership anyways. So, I'm please to be saving the $111. There were no other discounts around, so I took that deal. The days of the major savings are over, I guess.

My November 06 discount for WL is small also but if you look at Disney's "season" schedules, it looks as if we are all booked during the busier seasons which makes a differece in pricing. With no codes out now for November, my small savings is still savings--paying for one adult 6-day park hopper.

Sounds like you WDW vacation is planned for Peak Season: February 15 - April 14

Only 10% off with AAA at Deluxe.

American Automobile Association (AAA) and Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) members qualify for "room only" discounts almost year-round, though there are a limited number of rooms available for each date. You can generally save about 10-20% at the Disney resort hotels, depending on the season.

In general, the discounts run as follows:

During Value Season you can get up to 15% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 20% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Regular Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Peak Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts.

The only time AAA/CAA discounts don't usually apply is Holiday Season (around Christmas).

Just waiting for all the people to "chime-in" regarding the line that's always given regarding APs ... purchasing a AAA membership is just that a AAA membership that provides services for your car and that the discount you get for travel is just a perk - something that should not be expected. Oh, how much I hate that answer! If it is even listed in the brochure of the AAA and in the AP information - I expect (yes, expect) a decent discount (and not just $5).

Yes I love all the other benefits too! I just love to save $ any how I can! With that being said I have egg on my face, not pretty! I did not get the rate from WDW site that included the tax and AAA's rate did. With that being said 13% tax wopsy! So now my AAA discount rate is 196.00 WORKS FOR ME!!!!!

Remember with AAA you only get a discount on the room. The tickets and dining are regular prices. Just do the math and you should be able to figure out what your rate was. The only confusing issue is the taxes. But in the end for 7 nights at POR from 1/1 to 1/8 with dining and PH I saved $250.00 from the disney online package.

On my room at the WL in November we paid what the room would of been without the tax. So I saved on the tax, but that's all! Better then nothing, I guess :confused3

That's part of why I'm disappointed. If you take 15% off the room portion, the savings should be $346, not $260. I don't understand why it would be less booking as a package.

I'm pretty sure that the difference is the tax. Your AAA quote includes tax on the room. The website package does not. You need to add 12% to the room rate on the Website package, than compare the difference.

I'm booked in the POR for the end of May - the new summer season. At first glance, I thought I saved about $80 for 3 nights. After reading all the posts, I thought I better really go over my numbers and see what I actually paid. When I stripped off the cost of the 3 day hoppers for the 4 of us, and compared the hotel rates to that on the web I got my $80 difference. Then when I realized that the AAA rate had the tax and the website did not, I backed off the tax, I realized my savings was more like $140 and that I must have gotten a 20% discount on the room. 20% sounds much better than $80 :)

I just found a wonderful AAA agent thanks to a fellow DIS'er.

For Contemporary our savings were $360.36 for 7 nights.

For POFQ our savings were $228.48 for 7 nights.

I just booked Contemporary. I'm very happy.

Regular season at Deluxe is only 10% off, so your discount sounds about right. Rack rate at Poly regular season is $385, so for 6 nights it would be $231 savings. The $346 savings is 15%, and that is during value season. I still think it's better than nothing. :)

Definitely! I'm not trying to complain as any savings is savings, but after all the research I've done, I just want to be sure I'm getting the best deal possible.

We're staying at WL 7/11-18. We booked the AAA rate:
7 nights @ $215/night/room (rack) for 2 rooms with 11.5% tax = $3356.15
7 nights @ $182.75/night/room (AAA) for 2 rooms with 11.5% tax = $2852.73

AAA savings of $503.42. :woohoo:

Now I need to wait to see if I can better it with a code or AP rate.

Am I correct that there is no AAA discount available with the Free Dining Package?

I am just being greedy but I had to ask. :sunny:

Slightly Goofy

That is correct, my AAA agent said that if Disney comes out with a promotion such as free dining that I will have to choose between the promotion and the AAA discount (granted that there are rooms available under the promotion at the resort I'm staying at). Can't do both (but boy wouldn't that be awesome). :goodvibes

Unless you want to purchase the dining package you may be better off getting the "room only AAA discount" directly from Disney. Then purchasing your tickets through ticketmania because you can get some deals there..
You are paying full price for your tickets through the package...

You could wait to get your tickets and book the room only and see if there are any other packages that come out between now & then.

I didn't feel the savings at ticketmania was worth it so I just went with the AAA package. How much will you really save?
