My 9 yo son becomes an "Adult"

We are planning a July vacation for 10 days. On our third day, my son turns 10. We are going with the DlxDP.

When calling, we asked if we would be paying the "Adult" DlxDP rate, or the "Children's" rate. At first the rep said he gets the children's rate since he would be 9 at the beginning of the vacation. Then he paused for a moment, and said "who's to know?"

I was wondering if anyone could comment on what Disney's policy is on this.

Also, we would like to order a cake for him on his birthday. If we take the "who's to know" approach and Disney considers him an "Adult," will we be "found out" if the cake has a number "10" when served at a Disney restaurant?

I believe the official rule is you go by whatever age they are at check in. So, he would still be considered a child.

heather is correct... check-in age is all that matters... of course, if you want him to have a bigger/better selection of meals, then you could list him as 10yo from the get-go and put him on the adult ddp... but that's up to you... in disney legal, he is 9!

it goes by the age at check in, if you are worried about being "found out" just have the cake say happy birthday without the number 10 on it
but i dont think you would need to worry about it, the disney police wont come and get you

We did this with my then 2 turning 3 year old. The only problem we had was at CRT for her birthday breakfast - she was charged as opposed to being free because she was 3 at that meal. Being that Disney had told me she was to be considered 2 for the length of the trip, and therefore free at family style/buffets, I just told servers she was 2 for the rest of the trip. I would suggest the same for your son. The official policy is age of check in=age for entire trip.
