my 8 yr old is growing BOOBIES!!!

Congrats to your son. I'm sure most parents notice that about their sons-NOT. One of the first signs of puberty for a female is budding. One of the first signs of puberty for a male would be the voice changing. I'm sure you would find it offensive if people posted "My ds is becoming a man, his voice is squeaking." since that would be speaking about our children's private growing up issues. It would be giving equal time to our male children though.

No but a discussion on voice changing and breasts is a little different, don't you think? And we have had several posts announcing their DDs have started their periods. I say bring on the nocturnal emmission discussion. I have 2 daughters and 3 sons. I'm sure I can add some valuable information. Like for instance: boys also develop budding breasts. Boys get sore breasts and knots in their breasts also when they start puberty, not near as interesting as nocturnal emissions though.

Nope. They're both noticeable changes in the different sexes in their entrance into adolescence. Nocturnal emissions and periods are not noticeable entrances to the general public. I would never discuss either of those things publicly about my ds nor my dd. The OP didn't either.

phamton,

I think it would be more fun to talk about your tag!:p

I gotta go, ya'll have fun.

I agree with Phantom. Going into that amount of detail is not appropriate. You can ask advice about puberty without revealing that much personal information about your child. ::yes::

My only advice is, try to be extra sensitive to your daughter, kids can be mean and if she is the first one "developing" (I hope that word doesn't offend anyone  ), some kids may pick on her esp. the boys. I remember my brother used to make fun of me and once I even overheard my mom making a comment to a friend about my chest for a 9 y/o, "she's going to look like Dolly Parton by the time she's 16". Well I don't, but I have always been very self-conscious about my body and I think that's why. If she is the 1st one developing, she's going to need extra love & support from home.

Traditionally breast buds were the first sign of puberty in girls. But with more environmental influences these days, hormonally "surges" can occur in young girls-often at around 8. The buds may literally come and go for a year or longer and "may" mean nothing. The Dr's now often say that the first real indication of puberty is pubic hair, and that could even be YEARS after the initial budding. And I am sure that was TMI, but this thread has led to discussions of puberty so this info belongs in here.
I would have the Dr. check DD at her next checkup to reassure you both. :D Care and Keeping of you is an excellent book. DD has one, but we read it together and have not read some select chapters yet. ;) She lets me know what she can handle.
And Yes, we have used all the correct body part names since the kids were born.

I have to agree with the TMI set. The title is poor taste. I too prefer to use proper, instead of slang terms. Maybe I'm old fashioned but it seem degrading and cheap.

Let's remember to remain respectful of each other when responding. If you would like to debate taste in title structure, what is considered TMI, etc., please open a new thread on the Debate Board.

Thank you.

I just realized the OP is a Nurse Practitioner, so she probably has seen and heard it all! :p

Just as long as we don't show the daughter the thread. ;)

I think the very fact that the daughter shouldn't be shown the thread, verifies the violation of trust..

I agree with the other posters who stated that there would be a more tactful way to seek info...

I guess the ultimate answer to whether this is appropriate or not, would be to ask the 8 year old if she would mind her personal business being shared with 61,979 disers...

what adult among us, would be comfortable if our children chose to tell their school friends something private about us...

I happen to agree that this probably shouldn't be here, but since it already was, it was helping others.
I see no point in intentionally making the OP feel bad about it. They've been told more than once that it may not be appropriate for here, I'm sure they got the message loud and clear. They may think about it and agree, they may not. But in the mean time, it is helping parents in more ways than one.
One of which is to be careful of what you post about your children.
I do have to admit to saying much more than I should about my kids in the past. And she let me know quite loudly how she felt about it. :earseek:

I'm not trying to make the Op feel bad about it,,just asking her to look at this post thru the eyes of an 8 year old...

it wouldn't be that difficult to edit the title and the original post, I'm actually surprised that the moderators are allowing the slang word in the title....how do they determine which slang is acceptable and which isn't...

I'm sorry, my message didn't come out quite right. It happens to me all the time.
I was trying to make a point about all posts about it making her feel bad. Not your post in particular.

....to whomever altered my last post.

where do I go to ask the dis moderator team....how they determine what is or isn't appropriate..if someone were to use the other slang word for breasts, would it be allowed

Oh..and what did I say that was disrespectful....???

Yes you need to have the talk. It is hard for the early developers, but she will be fine.

<font color=navy> Mickey88 - I don't know the answer to your question - the webmasters make that decision, but you can click on 'report this post to a moderator' or email admin@wdwinfo.com and ask that question.

It is difficult, MICKEY88, to communicae with 'a team', but that is part of the reason of having the 'team' here on the CB, that it being a bit less personal than dealing with a named person when having to administer the board. Since the team came into being some months back, I have most often used the 'Report this post to a moderator' function or just emailed Pete at webmaster@wdwinfo.com with concerns I might have. Both resources do work. I will say if you use the 'Report this post to a moderator' function and you do not either hear back from someone or see something, to continue using it till you do. Sometimes it takes a few tries before it goes through I think.
