My 8 month old DD is getting tubes in her ears

I found out today that my 8 month old DD will be getting tubes in her ears next Friday, which is April 30th. I put a smiley face w/ my thread because she will feel so much better once she has them put in.

My other DD had tubes put in her ears at the age of 3 1/2 and it really is a non-invasive procedure, but there is still a certain amount of nervousness that I feel.

So, if you all would think of us on April 30th and say a prayer I would really appreciate it.

My DS, 9 1/2 months, is going for a followup on his ears on Thursday... three weeks ago he got his second ear infection since February and I'm not so sure they're better.

DS got his first set at 8 mos and 2nd set at 2 yrs, DD got her first set at 6 mos and 2nd set at 2 years as well. They had ear infection after ear infection. Amox. and the sulfurs did not work for them and I had to give them the strongest antibiotic at that time. That scared me. The tubes were an immense help and they were back to normal within a few hours. It was amazing. I do have to admit though the first time all that gook came out of their ears I panicked, dr. said that was good because then it was not staying in and infecting! I was lucky with the older 2, only mild infections. DD now 14 now gets them quite frequently which is very odd to me. Pixe dust to you.....

I'm sending some Pixie Dust to you, too! My DD had to have tubes inserted in her ears 3 different times. (Ear infections) She didn't seem to mind, though. After the tubes were removed, the doctor placed them in a little box and gave them to her. She got home, put the box under her pillow, and during the night, the Tube Fairy paid a generous visit!

I hope your little one will need only one set of tubes.

More PD for you. DS had 5 ear infections between 5 and 14 months and the last one went into pneumonia--after that one they finally put tubes in--and they lasted 2 1/2 years! Not a single infection since. I just wish they had done that for DD#1, she had not as many but 2 or 3 a year up to grade 2 and one a year since (she's 12 now!) and the hearing in one of her ears is not 100%.

I'll say a prayer for her.

My ds had tubes put in right after his 1st birthday. He did feel so much better after having them. He kept his forever though. I had to take him to the ENT a couple of weeks ago to have them taken out. He had them in for 6 1/2 years. The dr and I laughed about how good of a job he did putting them in. His ped and the ENT have checked them regulary and he didn't have any problems with them.

DD has had consistent ear infections in both of her ears for the last 2 1/2 months straight w/o any break. She has been on 4 types of antibiotics, had two very powerful shots last week, ear drops, aulbuteral cough syrup (a terrible cough is her trademark sign for ear infections) and donatussin. She has been on 4 medications at a time this whole time - it's hard to keep the schedule straight sometimes on when each mediciane needs to be given .

Luckily......this DD has been less sick w/ her ear infections than my older DD who would get very sick w/ her ear infections . Older DD would get very high fevers and vomiting. The tubes helped DD#1 very little, so a month and a half later she had her tonsils and adnoids removed. She was then so much better

What makes all this hard this time is that DD#2 is just so tiny. The thought of her having surgery is kinda scary, but I do love her doctor, and that makes everything a lot easier.

Let's hear it for ear tubes. I'm sure all will go smoothly, Slo, and she'll be feeling great. I think tubes started getting common when my kids were babies (though neither needed them), seems like so many kids did have them and all did well. My best.

I'm 31 and I'm considering getting tubes put in too! I have constant ear infections and fluid in my ears and it's getting to the point that I can't hear out of one of my ears for weeks at a time.

Well I've been doing some research on them and I found out that it's a very simple procedure, and for adults they do it in-office with just novacaine. The reason why children have to go to the hospital to have it done is because they have to stay perfectly still. They're put under general anesthesia so they won't wiggle around so much This is the only reason why it's not an office procedure for children. I hope that eases your mind a little bit. I too was scared of the thought of "surgery" but it sounds like it's not nearly as complicated as it seems...
