My 8/3 Western Caribbean Trip Report!!

Bob Noble-

I've been giving the whole Capt. Marvin's thing some though, & I'd have to say it can be done. The keys to accomplishing this, in my opinion would be:
1) get to the Walt Disney Theatre earlier than the time they are scheduled to meet, to ensure you are on the first boat out
2) have towels with you, so you don't have to go buy one
3) know EXACTLY where you are headed. From the port's south terminal, you head left and go past the north terminal. In fact, the north terminal is a good spot to go ahead & cross the street. You will bend to the right & it looks like you are leaving town for a brief moment, but you aren't. Justgo down a block or two, and look for the yellow building (you can't miss it). Go in, check in, and you're home free.

As for what a Segway HT is, it's some new human transport that was recently developed. It is propelled by your balance. If you lean forward, it goes forward. If you lean back, it goes back. If you jump.. well, most likely you're going to fall on your butt. You turn with the a knob on the left handlebar. Anyways, it is a cool device with a max sped of about 5 mph, and you can find a little more about it & see it at http://www.JL-Site.com/HumanTransporter/Directory.html

Hope all that helps.

You guys crack me up!!!!!
Way cool daily reports and drawings:p
Can you hang out with us next July when we go?

Where are the pictures of Dan???? Hmmm, very suspicious...

AS much as I'd LIKE to be going back on a Disney cuise as early as July, I don't think it will happen. Not unless someone wants our company so bad that they're willing to pay our way, that is...
When I DO book another cruise, you better believe this will be the first place I will tell everyone. That way, everyone can rush to get their reservations to be part of the sequel!!
Sorry we can't go, but feel free to be a freak all you want to on your cruise! We encourage that kind of behavior!! You must carry on the tradition!!! :p

Speaking of being a freak, the Belle "freak" thing actually wasn't too far off, actually. Dan was the only male adult in line with a bunch of young girls, so when he went up for his picture, I guess he thought an explanation was in order, so he said "Beauty & the Beast" is my favorite Disney movie.", and smiling very nicely, Belle said "Okaayyy!" I swear I saw fear in her eyes for a brief second though. :jester:

As for the pics of Dan, he's too hairy to be captured on film. I'm not sure how that works out, but it's true.
No, actually I do have some pictures, but unlike Dan, I actually use a camera that has FILM. I got the pics developed & got Dan a set that I haven't had the chance to give to him yet. Maybe if we ask hard enough, Dan will scan them and add them to his site. I know he's out there reading this, right Dan?

Ryan,
Thanks for the reply. We are going for Marvin's on the Nov 9th sailing. I'll take your advice on the multiple Konch Koolers.

Bob

Ryan....how am I supposed to write my 8/3 trip report after reading yours!!!!! It could never compare!!!!

Now that I see your pictures I saw you around the ship. Your wife was fantastic as Gloria Gaynor and had our vote!!!! Too bad granny won!!!

My DD18 was picked at 80's night as one of the GO-GO'S for the battle of the bands against Bon Jovi. Of course the GO-GO's won!! What she didn't realize when she agreed was that you had to go to a room and take all your clothes off, excpet undies, and wear a towel wrapped around your body and head. She was assured by Robin of the cruise staff that they have never lost a towel yet!!!! She had a blast!!! She was in the pink towel.

Kenny Anderson and his family were sitting at the table next to us at dinner every night. My girls and his daughter became quite friendly and exchanged e-mail addresses. She was very down to earth and they live a few house away from the singer USHER, which trilled my DD14. I must say no one that I saw went up to him for autographs or pics. They let him have his privacy which was nice.

ABSOUTLEY loved your trip report and pics. I will try to post my report soon, but I am sure it will pale in comparison!!! So glad you had a great time and too bad we could not meet up.

MJ

What an awesome trip report!!! Thanks it makes me even more excited about my trip - :p on Sept. 28.

Thanks

Ok, trip report....fantastic! Pictures...incredible!....cartoon drawings.....amazing and HILARIOUS!!! Sounds like you had a great time!

I am assuming you all shared one cabin....I was wondering what that was like? Was it too cramped with three adults? And what about privacy and stuff? Did you all feel comfortable sharing one room?

Yep, we shared one cabin. It wasn't bad at all- not very cramped, and privacy wasn't a factor. Most times when we were in there, we were asleep anyways. As long as you kept the bathroom door closed, you're fine. At night, we show the privacy curtain too. Rhonda & I are both very good friends with Dan (me since junior high, Rhonda since high school), so being comfortable with one another was no problem. It was like going with family.
As far as OTHER privacy issues with having a couple going with a single individual, well.... just read the part about the Suriel Bath. There are ways around it.

Ryan,

My husband and I had the Surial on the same day as you. We did the 9:30 am. It was our second time (first was last year). We loved it, too.... if you know what I mean LOL.

We had such a great time. On the first night, we went to the dueling piano show, and silly me, I got a little too boisterous and they pulled me out of the audience and made me go up on stage and do my rendition of the "Organic" shampoo girl in the shower thing. I was bright red, and my husband wished he had the camcorder. Needless to say, I was little bit famous among the dueling piano set, and was recognized while in the lobby waiting for an elevator! LOL.

The cruise came and went so quickly, wish I could do it over again! We had great servers (Erasmo and Edit) and an excellent stateroom steward (Marlon). We had a different towel animal every night. The kids were ecstatic!

Margaret

Cool! Let's compare towels animals! We had (not necessarily in this exact order):

Swan
Bunny
Snake
Elephant
Crab
Monkey

We got:

Stingray
Elephant
Swan
Heart
Monkey (hanging from a hanger)
lobster
crab

they made them with my kids blankets (brought from home)

I just love detailed reports. Thanks for being so tedious! It's like we are with you. DIS nuts definitely feed on this stuff!

???A quick question???
In Key West, you said you went up La Concha Hotel 7th floor for a fanastic view of the city including the Magic. We are definitely going to do this, too! Do you know if it is near the Lighthouse? Hubby is into lighthouses, so we are going to climb it, but if it offers the same view, we might save the energy for something else.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
Tina
Magic Western 1/18/03

Thanks for an awesome report. Very entertaining. The cartoons cracked me up!!!!! Glad that Dan had a good time regardless of missing the singles meet! ha ha ha!

Tina-

The lighthouse is across from the Hemingway house on Whitehead Street. The La Concha is on Duval Street, which is runs parallel, but I'm not sure how many blocks away they are from one another. But considering the lighthouse is something like $8 per adult, and the La Concha is free, I'd take the La Concha, unless I was already in that area for some other reason.

MtDew Buzz -
You are hysterical! I enjoyed your narration and comics so much!
Thank you for them!

Rae

Dan - Your cartoon page may very well be the funniest thing I have ever read. No wait...I read something a few years ago about a Rhino and a choo-choo train....hmmm.....hmmm.

No, I was right. You page is the funniest thing I have ever read.

Ryan, thanks for posting this great trip report. And for adding the link to the cartoon page. Glad you had such a great time!

I loved your report! thanks so much for posting all the super and hilarious memories of your trip! I printed out the cartoon report, and can't wait to show it to my hubby! I was laughing out loud! What a treat to read after such a tough week!

Thanks for sharing the details in such an up-beat way!

Thanks for all the positive feedback we've received so far! We both tried to make our respective reports entertaining (so you'd want to read them), as well as informative (so maybe it'll help you learn something).
The secret to doing a good trip report is to take a notepad with you. I updated mine every night, until after the Caymans, then I had to go back and think some things through again. That is why some details, like what I ate. got left out the last few days- I couldn't rememebr them!! So make sure you keep up with your journal. Even if you don't write it word for word, at least jot notes to remind yourself of what happened. And don't forget your own thoughts & opinions- very important!!
Again, thanks for the praise, and if anyone has questions, I'd still be happy to help! It allows me to think I am somehow vicariously going on the cruise again!!

My husband and I also enjoyed being on the August 3 cruise. It was a great cruise! My highlight was being picked for the Who wants to be a Mouseketeer show. I was sitting in K11 and was the very first person up on stage. I thought I knew a lot until all of those people are looking at you. I blew the question about Mary Poppins. Let me tell you that the for the week after the cruise we stayed at Disney and saw Mary Poppins everywhere we went. My husband couldn't help but continuously tease me. I am really looking forward to when we can cruise again with Disney.

Thank you for writing such a great report. It is neat to see someone else's point of view who was on the same trip!!
