My 40% off story

Ok.. i have been reading all about these 40% emails and got excited cuz maybe I would get one and my family could stay longer at WDW. Anyway.. 3 days ago I booked a room at the ASM 5d4n family suite and asked if there was a 40% off code for my house, name whatever. The lady looked but no code was to be found. I was bummed as hell but since I was gonna go anyway I booked the room but didt pay becasue i wanted to talk about the reservation with my wife and payday was only 3 days away.

Fastforward to today.. I got an email from disney but my spam blocker deleted it. I called Disney (cuz I was gonna pay for my ressie anyway) and asked if she could see if I had a code. She told me they cannot look up codes and without me giving her a number there was nothing she could do. Well she was rude and I wasnt about to give her commission so i decided to call back late. When I called back I got this awsome dude who was very polite and talkative and helpful from the beginning. I told him I wanted to add a day to my ressie and a couple of other changes and how it would be eaiser if i had one of those 40% off codes people were talkign about. He said yeah it has been crazy around here. I told him about the email and that 3 days ago a lay looked it up for me... he said he didnt think he could look anything up but give him a minute and he would see. Im not joking it was like 5 mins and he came back and said yeah i got you code right here. DO you want it.. I said yeah i guess (inside i was busting) but for the week after thanksgiving all ASM family suites are booked. I said give me CR if you got it.

Short story long I got 6 days 5 nights at CR garden atrium (garden view) for $100 more than my 5d4n at all star....

what I dont understand is how disney decides who gets codes. you would think they would want to reward the people who have been loyal and go year after year. These are the people who spent money and advertise for disney on these boards with theie reviews. My MIL got a code and she went once and I paid for it all.
 
I don't get it. Why did you need them to look up a code for you or get one in email? Couldn't you just use the MYV 40% code??
 

im not sure what that code is? If i am not mistaken it is a military code and not available to everyone
 
Good for you on your discount! Persistence pays off. Wouldn't it be easier if Disney would just offer this code to the general public?! Seems that the majority of the population of the United States has gotten this code (I'm not serious!), and those who didn't get it feel cheated. I go to Disney World often and didn't get one, but I can't go during that time frame.....But still. This is a big deal to a Diser. ;)

Honestly, if you come back year after year, chances are you are going to be coming again with or without the 40% discount. But the discount might encourage them to go for the first time or revisit after not being there for a few years.
 
Last weekend I called and asked if there was a code in my or my DH's name. The CM was polite but said she had no way to check. She did volunteer to check our profile and make sure everything was accurate. I don't understand why some CMs can (or will) look for codes and others say they can't. I did book 10 nights at ASMu at the AAA rate. If anything better comes along I'll change it.

5 days later our son got a 40% email. He has been to WDW only twice in the last 7 or 8 years. I guess he is exactly the kind of person that Disney is trying to entice to come.

Congrats on your code and upgrade.

I don't understand either why some cm's can find codes and others can't.

When I booked in Jan. '08 - I asked and the cm told me I had NO code. The next day, I got the 40% off postcard in the mail. In my name, same address, so you'd think the code was there and either the cm didn't really look or she really couldn't find it for whatever reason.
 
do any CM's come to this board. maybe one of them could answer this question

YAYY! I was so disappointed, I was waiting and waiting for the darn code. I called, they didn't have one for me. Called again, no code. Next day... what do you know, I got it in an email. Go figure.

Yay for good deals!

As one who has gone yearly since 1973, Disney knows they have me hooked---so no 40% email. However, my daughter received one today, using my email address. Unfortunately, I am taking her and her family but during dates in October which are not included. Drat!
