My 4 year old said..

"It's just a character. Characters don't talk," when i excitedly told her i made a FP for her to meet Tinker Bell and asked her what she is going to say to her.

Geez! She's 4 and 3 months! I thought they keep the magic for a few years yet.

A month or so ago she commented when we watched a YouTube video of a Snow White meet and greet at Epcot and said, "is she wearing a costume"? I said, um no, that is Snow White.

How long did unquestionable magic last for you kids?

So far my girls are 4 years 2 months and 5 years 2 months and both are still believers!!

Mine is 3 and has asked several times about the characters being people in costumes. Maybe yours was thinking that since the furry characters don't talk, Tink wouldn't either? That might not mean she doesn't believe!

She might not believe any more. By that age I didn't believe in Santa or the Easter Bunny any more (didn't know about Disney World and characters yet). That's ok. Disney won't be any less magical for her. It will just be a different kind of magic.

My 4 year old told me last week that he thinks the characters aren't real, they're just costumes. I just said "really?" as this was an out of the blue comment. Then he said "no mommy, I do think they're real". So he seems to be on the fence. If he actually asks me, I'll tell him the truth, but will also tell him how much I enjoy meeting them anyway! He's really looking forward to the Disney Jr breakfast at Hollywood & Vine next month!!

Yikes, I probably shouldn't show you the absolute star struck pictures of my (then) 10 and 8 year olds meeting Elsa. Even I was shocked at how believing they were. But, they are 11 and (almost) 9 now and still believe in Santa soooooo.....but then again, so do I.

I hope they hold onto that for a little while longer, since they now have a little brother who will believe for a long time to come.

right, that is what i thought.. your ages sound like it should.. believing! I didnt get to go to disney til i grew up and paid for myself, in college, and i felt like they were real and got all excited when i saw the characters.

Talking Mickey would probably blow your daughters mind!

Mine is/was the same way BUT after getting there I think she changed her mind a little bit Now she thinks some are real and some are not....I think she wants to believe but intellectually understands. She LOVED meeting them though, but she didn't want to take any of Kenny the Pirates thoughts on interacting. It took a while for her to warm up to having conversations, in the beginning she just wanted to hug them and smile and laugh. She asks me sometimes if I think Tinkerbelle is real, I try to ignore it so I don't have to lie too much. On a positive note, not having to dramatically chase characters is a plus!

it blew my mind! she got to see him when she was 2, on her first visit. it was amazing. she can't argue with a talking mickey? now if all of the characters talked then it would be perfect. last night she whispered into my ear.. we're going to disney world in 5 days, it's going to be so much fun, we're going to swim in the nemo pool, the cars pool, and see Santa Goofy. I told her that Tinkerbell flies down from the castle before the fireworks and DD4 said she's going to fly with her.

Wait what!?!? The characters are not real?!?!...I'm crushed.....in our house I'm 46...DD is 8 and there is no end to our magic..we will always believe...not sure why I got the kids that are endless Disney believers but at 23 and 22 my older ones still love the characters and never once have they questioned their " realness" .
Maybe when your daughter sees the characters she will have a little more faith.

My boys were just not believers. They never believed that Characters were real......never......not even at 2 or 3. They never believed in the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy and gave up on Santa by 5. HOWEVER.....They are huge Disney fans. They love character meals and they love interacting with the characters. They are 9 and 23. That bunny and Tooth fairy always came and without the stress of protecting the secret, we really enjoyed really embellishing the whole thing and having a ton of fun. Santa still comes and while we all know, and we know that we all know.....we don't really talk about that around Christmas and do all the fun stuff with cookies and stockings etc. Guess the point is, it's ok!!! It really does not have to change a thing.

Our first trip, our 4 year old and 6 year old questioned why in the world people were waiting in line to have people in costumes sign a book? These same two (now 10 and 7) are still firm believers in Santa and all unseen magic. They just did not believe it in person, I guess. My 3 year old is another story. Had my first character meets last year. Now, I just have to figure out how to sneak her away from big kids (who still say no way) to see her beloved Mickey. She won't talk to him and hides, but nonstop in the park all she says is "I want to go see Mickey!"

Anyone have your child ask why Tinkerbell is so big? That's the one I think my daughter will ask. Special pixie dust so we can see her, maybe?

My daughter had just turned 5 on our first trip and she seemed to believe the characters were all real. She was absolutely mesmerized by Elsa and Anna!
She'll be about 6 and 5 months on our trip next year and I'm hoping she keeps the magic just a bit longer.
