My 23 year old daughter needs a root canal & crown

Doesn't it stink?? DH just got one today and it set us back about that much too. :( hope your DD feels better soon!!

And the kid I dated (and broke up with) in college ended up a Dentist! what was I thinking? I have terrible teeth so I can feel every bodies pain literally and figuratively. I need 3-4 crowns right now and probably 2 root canals.
It is amazing how much it does cost.

Well, better the $1900 to save the tooth, than $4000 to do an implant or $2700 for a bridge. I know it's pricey. But it's worth the investment.:thumbsup2

It's always worth it to get a second opinion or a price from somewhere else.

When I moved from my hometown I tried going to a new dentist instead of the family dentist I went to for years. The new dentist said that I had $2000 worth of work to do in my mouth. I hadn't been to a dentist for years so I was horrified and disappointed. I went straight back to my family dentist who said that he was trying to do unnecessary work. My husband who the new dentist said needed a root canal was able to get cheaper treatment as well.

We are still 2 hrs away from our hometown dentist so DH tried a new one near our home that had excellent reviews on google. Again, the new dentist said there were hundreds of dollars of work to be done. I asked my hometown dentist what he thought of it. Again, unnecessary work.

It's always worth it to get a second opinion! I'm glad we did (both times!)

Been there, done that. It's an absolute joke.

I had both done a few months ago, the crown was $850 and the root canal was $750, so mine was a little cheaper. I had them done on different teeth, the crown because I broke a huge piece off one and the root canal because my teeth became so sensitive to cold items I could no longer eat lettuce or any cold item you had to chew. What a huge difference the root canal made! I celebrated by going home and eating a huge bowl of salad!

Luckily the insurance picked up a small portion of the work but I had flexible spending money to pay for the rest. I will have to wait another year for my lasik surgery.

^^ They didn't crown your root canal? I'm surprised.

You may want to check with an endotondist.

The reason being I just had a root canal and a crown put on in Mar. IT WENT BAD!!! I was having excessive pain. I was told that is normal. After a month I went back in and the Dentist admitted he didn't get the whole root! I have to have it redone but my Ins. is gone for the year. He did tell me he'd give the endo. partial payment. GRRRRRRRRR....

If I would have went to the Endo in the first place my Ins. would have paid 90%!! I didn't even know what an Endo was !!! I've never needed one.

So upset.

Good luck to your DD...I'd get a second opinion!

Anyone know of any good Dentists?

no, I went back to the dentist the next week and they just filled it.

Wow, that's nice!

I've had two root canals by two different dentists. The second dentist did a root canal and he also had to fix the one done by the first dentist because he screwed it up so badly. I'm sure he went on a nice vacation with the money I spent on it... he could have at least done it correctly.

There are reasons why I'm terrified of the dentist. LOL.

I had a small cavity under an existing crown. My problem was that the crown was done within the last 5 years and insurance will cover none of it. That means the $2,100 is coming all out of pocket. Because of the location of the new cavity, they have to crack the crown and replace it.

My dentist's children should be sending me a thank you card for putting them through college.

It stinks. Just when we finally get ahead financially something happens. DS16 needs to get 3 wisdom teeth removed. (one was removed two years ago). $1500 paid at time of procedure then we can seek reimbursement from insurance.

Just curious why you are still paying for your 23 year old's dental care, is she still in school?

Maybe because she doesn't have the money and her parents are nice enough to care about her to help her out. :confused3

I hate that dental care is so expensive. It should be included in health insurance just like any other health issue. They harp that it's so important, yet even with dental insurance, many people can't afford it.

She didn't say she was. But, my daughter is 25. If she needed a root canal and crown, and didn't have the money, I would do what I could to help her pay for it -- just because she's my daughter. Why on earth would a parent want their child to suffer if they could do something about it?
