Literally...my son ate 2 pennies!!! I called the doctor- panicked!!

"He has obviously swallowed them and therefore not choking on them. So, just wait until he passes them through his stool." (Which I guess I knew that it was going to come out that way, anyway.) "However, if you notice him begin to run a fever or double over at the stomach, bring him on in or take him to ER if this happens in the middle of the night. The pennies could get lodged in his passage ways to the stomach or intestines." (Now, I am freaking out!!!)

So, has anyone else's child ate money before? What should I look for throughout this ordeal,....besides the pennies in the diapers? Will he be okay?

Just wait until you hear the clang. Then you know he passed it! :rotfl:

Out DD did the same thing and passed it the next day without any pain or discomfort. I even fished it out as a souvenir. :earseek:

This happened to my stepbrother. We were told to look for it in the toilet! If I recall correctly, he passed it in a few days.

Well at least you'll know that at some point he'll give you his .02. :rotfl:

Thank you, Cape Cod Tenor will be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress and try our salad bar! :rotfl2:

::ahem:: I ate money a couple of times when I was a wee young lass. While my normalcy sometimes comes into question, I think I turned out ok. It's been at least 23 years since I've ingested the stuff, I think it's out by now and I'm none the worse for the wear.

Thanks so much for the laughs! In the midst of being scared, I know that I will need to "dig" through it all. I guess it is not the end of the world...(maybe it will happen when DH has to change the diaper ;) )

But if I see a nickel come out...he just might be my own banking system! :rotfl:

PS- at 2 1/2 years old, he does give me his .02 worth everyday!!

No need to fret, It'll work it's way out in the end...it'll be ok.

ETA: Oh, and a cheep pair of tweezers might come in handy.

My DD, now 6, swallowed my wedding band when she was 1 1/2. She has some other digestive issues, so we had to have her x-rayed everyday until it showed up to make sure things were moving. But, I understand, as long as there aren't any other symptoms, everything's fine as long as they're in the diaper in a day or two.

:rotfl2: Ohhhh! I feel your pain! As you can see you are not the only parent who has experienced a child swallowing a "foreign" object! Our son drank half a bottle of old english furniture polish. We were so panicked, we ran him to the ER where they informed us to call poison control next time as we would have been told then that OE furn polish is 99% castor oil. Needless to say he had lots of diapers and they were quite fragrant and orange in nature...lol!

The funniest thing was he did swallow a penny and we never even knew it until DH was changing a diaper and found said evidence. What makes this even funnier is that my mom had just recently sent us a "money" tree, magic bamboo, for my bday as a sign of good fortune. She is convinced our good fortune was dispensed and it wasnt her fault it was out our toddlers rear and it only amounted to a penny's worth!!!! :rotfl2:

Im just so glad to know that in the parenting game we are not alone!
