My 1st Post- Question about Free admission under 3

When I checked in last year my niece was 2.5. They told me it was the age the child was when you booked the trip. Next year my son will be 2 when I book it but 3 by the time we get there. What do I do?

nope.. it is not the age on the date you book... if that was the case everyone would book even more in advance. If he is 3 by the date of your trip he needs a ticket.

Now if you check in when he was 2 and he turned 3 during the trip than they are free the whole trip.I ended up adding a night before my package started and my daughter was 2 that day.. but I did keep her tickets with my package as a 3yo.

Unfortunately that is not correct and booking date has nothing to do with it. The WDW website asks for the "childrens ages at the time of travel" and most times the CRO rep's do as well.

Welcome to the Dis!!party:

This is a hot topic, but be sure to ask questions - hot or not!

Thanks! Sorry to cause such a ruckus! Who knew?!?!

You'll find that if you ask questions about bending/breaking rules, this was a pretty gentle thread...

Good luck on the Dis!

Children's tickets are for ages 3-9

she needs a ticket

At the gate, CM have been known to ask the child themselves how old they are. Some guy did this to my DD when she was 2. She's small and looks young for her age too..so it was a little bizzare but whatever.

I saw them quiz a kid at DL a couple of weeks ago. The first thing I thought was that my middle son was always the age of my oldest...at least according to him! So he would have said he was 4 when he was 2.

Ha. Ha. Best to carry a birth certificate in those cases :rotfl:

you dont need to bring proof..i spoke to a supervisor directly and they told me no one SHOULD ask you..it would be pointless anyway..my girls are 4..the other day someone asked her how old she was and she said 50..? so what happens then?

No kidding! My boys are really tall, too!

The thing is, though, that it would have caught me entirely by surprise. We always took a trip right before the guys turned 3. At any point it might have come up. As a young mom it would have offended me. As an old mom, I'd just ask to speak to a manager, and let them know I didn't appreciate it!

We went a couple weeks after DS turned 3 and bought his ticket. I booked well in advance, but as another poster said, it is the age at time of trip. I think alot of CM's ask the age just as an ice breaker talking to the kids, not trying to see if the parents are sneaking them in or not.

Welcome to the DIS! Don't let this first thread scare you away! :lmao:

I have to share a funny story. A few weeks before my 3rd birthday, I was flying with my parents to New Jersey to visit family. We were having a clown at the party, and my parents were talking the party up so the clown wouldn't scare me...including talking about "turning 3", etc. When we got on the plane (where kids under 3 were free/ could share a seat) one of the flight attendants asked me how old I was, and I said "I was 3 on my birthday!" :rotfl: My mom said she felt like such a liar, but she wasn't LOL!

Kids can be funny :rotfl2:

2 years ago we had a snarky CM a the turnstiles at MK- my twins were in a double stroller and they were not yet 3. They're birthday was 3 weeks away...anyway- she asked me how old they were, and I said 2. Then she asked my son how old he is and he held up 2 fingers. Then she asked my other son (who was sitting beside him) how old he was- and he said "we're twins! that means we're boaf 2!" I was ready to head back to the hotel to get the birth certificate copies I had with my airline stuff. I was so put off by her "challenging" me like that!
So- whatever you decide to do- be prepared for a battle!:sad2: :scared:

The Disney website is very clear. If you daughter is at least 3, she will need a ticket. But it, of course, depends on conscience.
