I have graduated from the era of 35mm film to a digital camera! I'm so excited! Santa left it under the tree - now I just have to learn to use it! I have already attached my strap, lens cap, inserted the card and the batteries. Now I am waiting to take my first picture - still reviewing the manual! :cool1: It is pouring rain so I can't do any outdoor pictures, but I will be taking it to my parents' house later today. Anyone else have this camera?
Oh, and we are going to Savannah Ga on Dec 30th, so hopefully the weather will be good and there will be some good photos to take there.

Soon to be my daugter's camera, as soon as I get my new Nikon gear, but an *excellent* camera; learn how to use it properly and you will LOVE it. One immediate suggestion: change the color mode ("f" button on back of camera) to "Chrome" and see if you don't like it better.

Enjoy your new Finepix!

Yekcim has created some pretty impressive photos with that camera - shows just what can be done with a good PnS.

You are very kind; thanks for the kind words. Also, distilling about 2000 shots down to about 250 helped, as well! Lotsa culls...

You'll just "love" that camera!
My fuji S5000 takes nice shots with great color!!
Santa did leave me my nikon...now ...maybe I'll get to read the intro after all the family goes home later.

Why after about 12 pics did it say my memory card is FULL??? Is my resolution set incorrectly?

What size is the memory card? You'll probably want to upgrade to a 1GB card.

They always include a tiny memory card with the camera... or some have memory built in the the camera, but only a tiny bit. Not sure what size the Fuji comes with, but the 6mp Canon that my wife got had a 16m card - good for about nine pictures or just a few seconds of video.

I checked and mine had the 16m card also. I just didn't anticipate that. Imagine my surprise when my card became full so quickly and 4 shots were wasted on my mom's cat!!!
So now I'll have to go get a larger one. I heard they are about $100 - is that true? I am such a novice when it comes to digital cameras.
I already love being able to download pics to the computer, however.

They range from 15 and up... depends on what you get and where... I think the fujis take something other than SD cards.... just be sure you get the one that fits your camera

That is not the case anymore. About two months ago, I got a 1GB SD card from Newegg.com for $17 with a $10 rebate. Online is probably your best bet for prices as long as you can wait a week or so to get it. Avoid the typical chain stores like Target and Wal-mart b/c their clearance prices are still twice as much as you can get online.

I've got a couple of 512MB cards...the Fuji uses one called an xD card; try www.newegg.com. You should be able to get a pretty good deal on one there. Looks like they range in price from about $25 up. Cheaper'n film by a long shot!

You should also consider getting a couple of sets (4X2=8) of good NiMH rechargeable batteries and a charger.

Just wanted to come back and say I have gone haywire taking photos with this Fuji!!! I love it!! Now on Saturdays I ride around looking for great things to photograph. Digital is SO much more fun than my old 35mm film camera. I snapped 136 pics yesterday morning in 3 hours and did not have to worry about film cost or if they would turn out good. And I can crop and print only the ones I want! It is photography freedom!! Why didn't I splurge on a digital camera soooner????????????? I love it!!

Yes, I did find a good deal. I would love to take it to Mickey's World, but probably not until next year! BooHoo This year we bought a boat and we are vacationing cruising on the intercoastal waterway in South Carolina. I hope to get some good pics there, too!

How large a picture have you printed from the Fuji???

8X10 is the largest I have printed, although I'm sure it would go 11X14 or larger if need be. I just don't have a need (or wall space...) for a larger print. Most of my shots, Mickey's World, or otherwise, end up as either Photobucket uploads or 4X6 prints, and the S5200 is more than capable in either instance.

BTW, I've heard some really good things about the new S6000fd, as well.
