Anyone out there know what the cause of this could be and what we could do about it? It's terrible, she is peeing everywhere. I'm afraid this could be the end for her. We have done two rounds of antibiotics with no luck, so it's not just a bladder infection. We have an appointment for her Mon., but are now thinking maybe we shouldn't do all the tests. The only 2 things they are mentioning are renal failure and diabetes. Renal Failure we can't do anything about and diabetes is two shots a day--very expensive. She is old and has had a good life. We are wondering if we should just put her down or if maybe it would be something not so serious. Anyone have any opinions or educated thoughts on this? We have the weekend to think it over.

Our very old Cocker had very similar issues.....and I am sad to say she actually had cancer and a tumor that had grown in her bladder which made her bladder obviously very small which made holding onto almost any urine impossible. She did die very soon after the diagnosis (within a few days) so we had been discussing putting her down but she ended up doing it on her own. She never seemed in pain just peed everywhere. I know this is a rough time for you and I hope you make whatever decision that will be the best for your family. :grouphug:

No medical expertise, just a :grouphug: . I have a little Cocker girl and can't imagine what you're going thru. Hope things turn out OK Monday.

Thanks guys. Cancer, huh. That's not good either. very sad. :sad2: Sorry about your sweet doggie.

That is what happened to my mom's dog at the end too.

I'm so sorry :grouphug:

Unfortunatly, this happened to my mom's dog at the end. I am hoping that you will have a better outcome. :grouphug:

One of our cockers had a pituitary tumor which caused very dilute (hence high volume) urine. She couldn't hold it for long. There was a medication that helped control it along with frequent trips outside and doggie pampers. She lasted three or four years but she was only 11 when it happened.

Best of luck. I know what a sad time this is.

Hugs to you. We have two cockers and also had one that lastest for 15 years. We ended up using the doggie diapers as well. If the dog isn't in pain and is fine otherwise, try the diapers. They can work really well and make the problem a little easier for everyone.

Wow...15yrs. Be thankful she's still there. From a cocker lover and previous owner of 5, my last lived 12yrs and she finally quit eating and going up and down the stairs (2) to go outside to potty. We had to put her down. :( I'm so sorry. I miss her like crazy. 15yrs is a loooooong time for a cocker.

Maybe it's not cancer. . . our dog (lab) had major incontinence problems. She would "leak" whenever she slept (always woke up in a big puddle). One vet suggested hormone shots (which worked VERY well). Another vet wouldn't give the hormone shot, because it could cause major complications. Good luck!

There is a drug we gave our lab for almost the last two years of her life that seemed to work. We got it from the vet - it's called Proin. It has the same drug in it as the old Dexitrim.

Your vet will most likely be able to give a diagnosis, there are so many things that it could be, simple to complex, relatively mundane to serious. If nothing too much and she is otherwise fine, no pain, the diapers work well. We used regular kid diapers for our two Siberians for several years before they passed on.

My best. :hug:

I lost a cousin (yeah, a couisn- a dog) to diabetes, but he had no bladder problems. But like damo said, if it doesn't hurt your baby then try diapers. If it gets worse and it turns out that she does have a problem, then you need to find help from a vet. I'm not a vet, in fact I'm almost 12, but maybe bladder stones are the problem.
Found at http://www.animalhealthcare.ca/contents/content.asp?id=305&keywords=bladder
" Diabetes results in:
* weight loss
* increased thirst and urination
* increased appetite
* liver malfunction
* cataracts
* increased risk of chronic infections (e.g. bladder). "

Brutus wishes the best to your little friend.

We had the same problem 4 1/2 years ago with our cocker, Tiffany. She was only 9. The vet did several tests and unfortunately our baby had bladder cancer/tumor. We could have spent thousands of dollars and put her through surgery and chemo but we didn't feel that would be fair to her. We had rescued her from a backyard breeder when she was 3 months old. She was destined to be euthanized if we had not taken her. Someone had stepped on her front paw and it was broken. The owner did not get treatment for her so it healed so that she was walking on the front part of the "elbow" joint. She had to undergo major surgery once we got her. This time we didn't think we should put her through a bunch of treatments that would probably only prolong her life a few months. We took her home and had a few more months with her until the tumor grew and started to cause her discomfort.

I hope that it is only something minor with your baby!

All I can say is that I am sorry. My boy is 13 1/2. My last cocker only lived to be 12 1/2 after a couple of years of heart problems.

Thank you everyone, including Brutus!!! :goodvibes You too, Cody :love: I appreciate the good wishes and the research, too....wow. I'll let you know what happens Mon. She is going to get groomed tomorrow as she REALLY stinks (our baths don't seem to be making any difference with that long hair). We are going to cut her really short. We tried a pullup on her (my son's :blush: ) and she didn't try to get it off like we thought she would, so we'll get her some doggie kind tomorrow. Thanks again.

We had this happen with one of my pugs a while back and it was just a bladder stone. Very minor surgery and she was good as new.
