We went last year but we were already in the park so it was no big deal...this year we are arriving on Sunday and would like to go that night....my question is since it is a hard ticket event do we need our regular admission AND the mvmcp tickets to get in or JUST the MVMCP ticket?

Just your MVMCP tickets...provided you wait to enter the park at the designated opening time for MVMCP.

You may even be able to get in with just your MVMCP ticket earlier than the official start time. Last year, they were allowing MVMCP guests (without regualr park admission) in as early as 4 p.m. I don't know if they will do that this year or not.
