MVMCP - Thursday or Friday ???

I know Friday will be more crowded - but how much more significantly do you think? We have a quick weekend trip planned - we are ONLY doing MVMCP - no other parks. I had planned to drive down on Thursday afternoon (Dec 8th), go to DTD on Friday morning (Dec 9th), the party that night, then come back on Saturday.


But, I'm now thinking we may bump it up a day - drive down on Wednesday (Dec 7th) and then do the party on Thursday night (Dec 8th).


The drawbacks to that are that my DD will miss 2 days of school instead of one - not a huge problem, she's only missed 1 day this year, so they will be excused, but she will have to make up her spelling test. AND, they have a special activity that they do every Thursday morning that I know she will be a little disappointed in missing.


But it will be a little cheaper for us to go on Thursday also because the tickets are a little cheaper, not to mention that our hotel room is a little more if we're there on Friday - so it would save us around $50 to go on Thursday. Again, not a huge deal, but $50 is $50.


So, I guess my biggest concern is the crowds. Do you think that the crowds will be significantly higher on that Friday night considering it's early December?

thursdays should have smaller crowds. or at least thats what i have read. i could be wrong.

I agree - I think Thursday night's crowds will be lighter too, but I'm just trying to decide if it will be significantly less crowded between the two that early in the month. I don't mind a little bit extra crowded - I just don't want to deal with shoulder to shoulder crowds or really long lines for the rides - wouldn't really make it worth our while to travel down there if it was since that's the only time we will be in the park.

Go on Thursday Dec 8th,crowds will be lighter and I think you and DD will get to see and do more.Friday MVMCP'S are sell outs many times along with last MVMCP of season.

Hello OP...as a fellow Pensacolian...let me say YOU GO GIRL!!! I hate the 8 hour drive and if I have to make it insist on staying at least 3 days....

My vote is for the Thursday party as well....have fun!

We bought tickets for a Thursday MVMCP last year prior to leaving home. At that time it had not sold out. By the end of that Thursday at MK, the party had sold out, approx. 20,000 tix.

Crowds on that Thursday were heavy -- we thought. Most of the rides were still walk-ons, 5-10 min. waits, but the shows were packed, the best viewing areas for the fireworks were overflowing, etc. That said, we must have loved it because we're going back three times this year: Friday, Sunday and Tuesday. We figure if it was sold out on a Thursday it's not going to get any worse than that on the other days.

Moral of the story: Don't count on any one day being slower than the rest. Every day may very well sell out at the last minute.

My understanding is that many of the MVMCP nights sell out.

I have read that the Friday parties are STILL significantly more crowded.

It has been postulated that Disney either intentionally sells more tickets on Fridays, or that they pull the tickets from the ticket sellers late enough that Disney effectively lets Friday nights become oversold.

Every source that I've read says avoid the Fridays unless you have no alternative, as regardless of sellout or not, Fridays are more crowded.

Your mileage may vary.

You drive too slow Seriously, we can make it in 6 1/2 hours - two bathroom breaks and one drive-thru meal.

Anyway, we've done weekend trips alot in the past - leave on Friday, come back on Sunday - had to get my money's worth out of that Season Pass.
We didn't renew it this year though, and I've really missed those last minute weekend trips.

And, I've decided to just do Thursday for the party. Talked to my DD about missing her Thursday activity at school, and she said it would be okay, so may as well go for the cheaper tickets and hotel stay. At least with Thursday, we have a chance of it being less crowded. That Friday morning is EMH at MK, and I'm thinking that may add to the crowds that day as well.

I thought I read somewhere that all the Friday nights are already sold out. We were thinking about adding the party this Friday, but I guess we won't if it is sold out. Debby
