I am already planning a trip for the 2003 holiday season! I have the fever...!

We have never been to WDW around the holidays and I have a lot to learn! We would like to go the week after Thanksgiving which is reputed to be low attendance.

My question...were any of you at MVMCP the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend this year---December 1? How were the crowds? We are considering arriving the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but not doing the parks until Monday--guessing that things are very crowded that weekend. However, I thought if we could fit in MVMCP on that Sunday--without using a park ticket, that would be ideal.

Any thoughts?

DW and I were at the party the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It was not a sellout and we pratically walked on all of the rides inlcuding Pooh. It was a very good time. One recommendation though. We were also at the December 5th MVMCP and it was a rain out. If you can keep from it buy the tickets the night before at your resort. At least you can gage the day before what the next days weather will be.

i purpossely stayed out of parks that day but went to mvmcp on dec 1st, i know that there only suppose to sell maybe 10000 tickets but there were only like 5000 people in the park it was wonderful, i dont know if it was because it was the first day of mvmcp or what but we walked onto every ride we came up to the longest lines i saw were waiting to get the pictures taking, on that day we went shopping and then rested so we could stay up for the whole party the fireworks they tried to start about 4 times but they got them started at midnite it was absolutely enchanting, there was the snow on main street and cookies and hot chocolate which we were thankful for because we were cold, and i would definately do it again on the first day hope this helps im sure you'll enjoy it.

Princess Vija,

Our trip is getting closer-I am also thinking of doing MVMCP that day, but since it is our first day at WDW after the Space Center, I know my son will want to go to a park that day. We may do Magic Kingdom during the day and then just stay for the party.

Get this. We went on Dec. 1st. During the first parade, my wife and I went on the Haunted Mansion and were two of the 4 people on the ride at that time. We were in the expanding room with us and a mother and daughter. We then went to Mickey's Toontown and were almost the only ones there. I have pictures of us in Mickey and Minnies's house and we are alone. I did not think it was crowded at all. We ate at LTT and loved it. The only complaint being we got to Mainstreet early for the second parade and steaked out a place only to hace a mother with small children get there as the parade started and demand we move to allow her children and her other nine relatives to get our spot. Needless to say, we did not move..smjj

We're planning that same week! We were thinking of going that Sunday too...not sure yet.

Now that I've planned it, I'm getting worried about airfare for the weekend after Thankgiving and traveling that weekend. Usually the first week in December falls a bit after Thanksgiving and I didn't have to worry about this in 2000 and 2001.

I heard that traveling on Friday is better than Sunday so that is what we may do...any opinions?

Thanks for the feedback. This is encouraging! Anyone been to the parks during the day on that Sunday? How are the crowds during the day?

Beattyfamily--We are considering flying on Saturday and just touring the resorts on Saturday since we assume the parks will be mobbed. Then, Sunday, we may do DD and a character breakfast or lunch at a resort hotel and then MVMCP that night. UNLESS I hear from others that the parks are NOT crowded during Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend--then we may go ahead and do the parks on Sunday and still do MVMCP that evening.

DISNEY--I love it!!! :Pinkbounc :teeth:

We have decided to fly out on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. I've heard that that is a very quiet travel day. I have heard the Sunday after Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year. We're going to celebrate Thanksgiving on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Our first day in the parks will be Sunday-hopefully a quiet day in the parks.

Thanks for some of the replies on what day you are leaving. Not only am I concerned with crowds but the airfare too!

I wonder if leaving Thanksgiving Day or the day after will be cheaper than leaving on that Sunday or will they just all be the same; a lot of money!?

I tried doing a search but you can't book past December 2 right now so it's hard to tell. But doing the week before Thanksgiving and then Thanksgiving week for me was a big difference; it went from $209 to $273!!

I guess I'll have to just wait and see.

Thanks again.

Since I've been planning this trip for a while, I watched airfares for this Thanksgiving. I can tell you the fares for Thanksgiving Day were very cheap around August and very high in October. Thanksgiving Day is not a "prime" day like the few days before Thanksgiving. However, I was more concerned with crowds at the airports which is why I chose Thanksgiving Day rather than the Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving. Now, if I could only decide what day to to MCMCP, I would be set.

Wow, thank you for that information! It certainly helps me. Now I just don't think I can wait that long, though, to buy my tickets especially for a holiday week! I'm the kind of person who buys my airfare ASAP like 10 months early!

Thank you again.;)

Just noticed your staying at BWV-I'm at BCV but hoping to get into BWV at 7 months. We're also doing HRH this trip. I'm wondering since everyone is saying how slow MVMCP was on the Sunday after Thanksgiving if Disney will do it again this year? I guess it's anyone's guess at this point!

Yes, it's our first trip "home". Previously we've used our points for monorail resorts because our DD's are young but I had enough points left for 5 nights at our 'home' this year so we're going for it.

We stayed at HRH in 2001 and enjoyed it a lot. Great pool and very nice walk to the parks!

Have a great trip!
