MVMCP on Arrival Day??

Is this a really bad idea? We just booked a trip from Nov. 15-22, ourselves. We are planning on DH attending a conference the 23-25, so we'll switch resorts on Thanksgiving day, since his conference is at the GF (and there's no way we can afford the GF on our own over Thanksgiving week :scared1:!!). Anyhow, it looks like we only have 3 choices for the party, the 15th, which is arrival day, the 16th or the 25th (which may not be a choice if we decide to fly back on the 25th-- not sure if we're going to fly back on the 25th or the 26th). If we do MVMCP on arrival day, then we won't have to use our tickets that day, which is good b/c we'll have 10 day tickets for an 11 day trip. Anyone have another suggestion? Attending on arrival day makes me nervous :scared:. Help me think outside the box, here, guys! --Katie

sorry mods. Meant to post this on the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies board. I'm reposting now. --Katie

Are you driving or flying? What time is your flight?

If you are driving, or flying early in the day, then I would go for it. If you are flying late in the day, you run the risk of delays holding you up. So if the 16th is a choice, I would pick that one if you are flying late in the day.

I did MVMCP on arrival day once. I was driving, and got to the hotel about 2pm. I rested for a couple hours and headed to the park. It was fine.

I wouldn't do it on arrival day - why not just do it the 16th? Then don't have to be nervous about it on the 15th.
Driving or flying? driving.. could arrive tired, or delays with traffic and just not enjoy party as much that night. Flying... could have flight delay/cancellations.
I'd say get there the 15th, take it easy - and do the party on the 16th.
If the 11 days with only 10 days of tickets is an issue... then perhaps the 15th don't go to a park, just hang out, do DTD or something..... OR on 16th don't go to a park, just again, hang out or something else and then can get into MK at 4:00 with your party ticket.

We've done it multiple times. If we are there and there is a party, we go (sometimes 3 a trip). And to make matters more "fun" we always take the 7am flight in, so we get up at 3am on travel day. And we dont go back to room at all the first day. Who wants to waste time your first day in the room??? 3am to midnight is rough, but well worth it! :rotfl2:

Lol! This is my family as well. We have always taken the earliest flight we could (typically 6:45 AM) to get to WDW as soon as possible. From Canada, with connections, we typically travel for 9 or 10 hours, but still go to the parks and usually shut them down. Last New Years Eve, it was EPCOT at 1 AM! :)

We've gone in December 3x and have always done MVMCP on our first night. Usually up at 3am to catch flight, hotel for an hour or two, and then on to the party! And the first year the kids were only 5, 7, and 9. They loved it!

Thanks for the input, guys. I checked out flight possibilities (still waiting for Southwest to open up our dates, but I went off the Ocotober schedule), and it looks like we won't get there in time. I'm thinking we'll do the night of the 25th. We'll stay until the 26th b/c flights on the 25th are just ridiculously priced. I figure it will be a great end to the trip :). Just waiting on free dining before I buy the MVMCP tickets! --Katie

There is no way I would do it. I've had my flight time changed too many times to risk it. I used to fly Air Tran alot. They are notorious for changing flight times. More than once we've had to change our ADRs around for that first night. Since Air Tran left Dallas Nov 23rd, we have to fly American or Spirit (maybe Southwest). In fact, I flew Spirit down there just a few weeks ago (May 5th-12th) and they changed both my arriving and departing flights so much, I lost about eight hours of my trip. Instead of getting in midmorning, I didn't get to WDW until about 7:30pm. I then still had to check in. If I had had a party booked for that night I would have been pissed.

I would not choose to attend MVMCP on my arrival day. Especially if I'm flying into Orlando. Anything could happen and may delay my flight. Now, if I'm driving, it might be less risky. I like to relax a little on arrival day and go all out the following days. The Christmas season is probably the best time to visit WDW, so enjoy it to the fullest!:santa:

We did go on our arrival day in 2010 and had no trouble. We flew and arrived at our resort around 2:00 pm. Got our stuff in our room and headed to magic kingdom. We had a great time but was getting tired by 11:00 and went back to the room.

DH and I did MVMCP on our arrival day. We had a CS in MK that night and it was totally fine. We arrived at POR at 4pm and went right to MVMCP! It was fun.
