Mustang convertible? Budget? Any others?

Does anybody know if Budget is providing the new Mustang convertible when you rent a convertible? (I'm always wary of "or similar.")

Are any other (on-site?) companies renting them? (We're not particularly interested in a Chrysler Sebring convertible....they just don't seem nearly as cool.)

We're thinking about doing it for our short trip in October -- we won't have as much luggage as on our other trips and I think my daughter would really like it....she always used to say she wanted us to get a "car with no windows." It took us a while to figure out what that meant until one day she pointed at a convertible with the top and all its windows down and said, "See, no windows!" Whenever we had thought about it before, without actually seeing it, our adult minds couldn't get past the fact that all cars have windows. Even if they're rolled down, they're still there inside the doors. (Well, aside from antique or exotic cars, maybe.) But after really seeing what she saw, it finally clicked! :)

Hertz has them, but they are off site. (The only other convetible I have seen at Hertz is the Toyota)

Personally I would rather have the Sebring. The normal Mustang has the world's smallest trunk (and I drive a Saab convertible with a pretty small trunk). The convertible has basically NO trunk. The Sebring has a decent trunk for a convertible.

I drive a Sebring. We have to put luggage on the back seat when Holly and I travel. Might be a big trunk for convertibles, but still quite small.

Also note that the back seat can be pretty windy.

But, for a nice October day, nothing beats top-down driving.

Good point, CarolA, thanks! I was actually thinking about stopping at the Ford dealer on the way home to look at the trunk myself.... We had rented a non-convertible Mustang about 11 years ago (but it was so problematic we traded it in within hours for a Camry) and it had a tiny, tiny, trunk, too. I was hoping it had grown a bit.... :)

Another driving factor will be price. At Budget, right now, a 'stang convertible for our trip would be about $300 (with a BJ's discount). I just reserved the Sebring at Dollar for $238. Which was cheapter than a Premium at 241.53, which was cheaper than a Full Size at $247.something. (I tentatively reserved the Premium, too. We rented a luxury last time, and I liked the 300C. If the luxury comes down to within a few dollars of the premium like it did last time, I'll upgrade the reservation to that. Then we'll have to decide between the beefy 300C and the Sebring convertible.) Anyway, I guess it shows that it always pays not only to re-check the rates on any given car, but the larger cars as well. What was an upgrade for "only" $12/day one day may actually be cheaper another.... :cool1:

CarolA, it sounds like you have personal experience with the Sebring convertible. How did you like it?

Vroom, vroom!

I just rented a 2005 Mustang convertible from Hertz last weekend at MCO. Took less than 10 mins to get to the lot on the shuttle. On the return trip I was the only passenger. Got a rate of $22 a day with AAA discount.

I like the Sebring... Now I admit that I am spoiled. I LOVE my Saab Convertible and nothing else seems to measure up (LOL!) However, the Sebring drives well and the top is easy to deal with. I find the handling better then the Mustang. (Plus I don't really like the "Roar" of the Mustang, but I realize that some folks really like that!)

The Sebring trunk is small, but the Mustang is smaller. (My 22" suitcase and a decent size computer bag fill up the trunk of a hard top Mustang!)
