Must I buy two tickets

My husband and two dear ones who are normal in weight are thinking about a trip to disney. We must watch our dollars as we are on a tight budget.

I'll just get to the point. I am about 260 pounds and about five feet six inches tall? Will I have to purchase two airline tickets? If I do, will it be obvious for all to know and to see? I mean will they remove the handle so that I can sit on two seats, or what?

This has me very upset.

I was about 360 when we went to WDW the last time. That was in September. WE flew and I was fine. I am 5'5"/ It probably depends on the airline. I had to extend my belt about the whole way but was not uncomfortable at all!!

I flew to WDW (Delta) when I was about 250 and I am 5'4". I fit OK and I didn't need a seatbelt extender but it was nice that DH was sitting next to me so we could lift the armrest betweens seats so I was a bit more comfortable and it didn't really effect him too much. I just didn't like that armrest rubbing that tightly against my thigh.

I flew delta at 235lbs (well closers to 242 according to my new scale) and I am 5'4" and I was fine. I think you should be too.

I've flown twice in the last year. Once 7 months pregnant and 275 lbs and once not pregnant, and closer to 290lbs. I am 5'6" as well and I fit fine. I did need the seatbelt extender when I was pregnant and on one leg of the flight the other time. The flight attendants were very discrete. Just flag one down if you feel you need the belt and they will bring it to you without any problem. There is a little less leg/tray room on some of the older planes, but you should be fine if you are sitting next to your husband, just raise the armrest. I should also point out that my DH is also over 300lbs and we were both fine with the single seats, just a little "cozy".

Although I think most airlines have that rule , the only airline I know of that actively enforces it is Southwest. If you can fit in the seat without a seat belt extender- there won't be a problem. If you need to use the extender- they will charge you for a second ticket.

Rose, I think you will be fine. Just sit between your hubby and kids and raise the arm rests. Don't worry about it!

I want to correct Jiminy....she should have typed 260, not 360 (only because I am her friend I know that!!!! :D )

You will be fine. I'm a bit higher too (I don't want to give my weight out) but a little less than you and I just flew on Southwest about a month ago and I was fine. I had an older plane and a newer plane and frankly, I was more comfy on the older plane and I sat back with the seat that had the wall behind it and it was much more comfy than the first plane I was on (I had to change planes). I also find if I sit in the aisle or the window that I have more room also.

I'm 5'8", and I was a size 26-28 last summer and managed to fly without needing two seats. I flew last year on both Jet Blue and Delta, back and forth to Florida. I did need a belt extender and my thighs were squished, but I didn't make it onto another seat.

I was probably pushing the maximum size, but no one next to me complained, so I guess I was lucky.
