Our family has never been to DTD before, and I'm looking fun things for my boys (4 and 6) to do there on our upcoming trip. I read a post about a build-your-own light sabre station at one of the stores. They'd love that!

Any other ideas? What are your favorite stops in DTD? Must sees? Must dos? I'd love to hear what families with young kids enjoy doing at DTD!

Thanks. :)

Our little ones really enjoyed the fountains :)

For some reason my boys just love to ride that dumb little train. If it is running and you want them to ride, go ahead and have them ride it because it only runs sporadically. I think they only have one person running it at a time and they must take quite a few potty breaks, meal breaks, and close early. They also love to play at the lego play tables outside of the Lego store. I can usually run in a few stores while DH hangs out with them playing legos.

Yup, mine LOVES the fountains too. They are next to Earl of Sandwich. :)

Mine also loved that dumb little train. The legos too. They have a ramp where they can build a car and then race it.
Mine liked having their picture taken with the buzz statue outside of the toy store and they went hog wild in the candy store. They have refillable build your own mugs. They can pick the color cup and add ears and feet of the different characters.

My husband, ummm, DS2 loves the build your own Mr. Potato Head in the big toy store. :lmao: We bring our own "head" from the cheap sets you can get at Target and then fill the box with Disney accessories for ~$20. It kept DS very entertained on our drive home.

He also enjoys the train (costs $2 per ride, I think?), but I'm not sure how exciting it would be to a 6 year old. He also likes to ride the free Disney transportation boat.

Rainforest Cafe is an interesting place to eat if they like animals - as long as they don't mind the sound of thunder (the restaurant has "thunderstorms" every so often)

My boys absolutely love DTD!! They start saving their birthday, holiday, allowance, etc. money as soon as we plan our trip. That way they can just go wild in DTD!!

This time they especially loved the Build your own Lightsaber and the Fill your own Pirate Skull! They really love the Once Upon a Toy store. There are lots and lots of places for some really cute pictures at DTD. The Buzzlightyear and Mr. Potatoe head statues in front of the toy store. And the Mickey & Minnie and Donald & Daisy statues at the Disney Pin Trader store. And the giant Lego statues!

They have fun in the fountains too! And don't forget to stop at Goofy's Candy Co. Especially if you are on the DDP. You can get 3 pretzel rods dipped in chocolate and then topped with candy for one snack credit on the plan!

Have fun! :wizard:

They had Lincoln Logs that you could mix and match 3 years ago too. I don't know if they still do, but I'll know in another 6 days! :)

This is a great thread. Keep the info coming. Our son will be a few weeks shy of 3 this November and these ideas are wonderful.:thumbsup2

The Lego store was one of our do not miss WDW destinations, DS13 spent hours there this trip - one thing you can do build little "dudes". There is also a whole wall of parts - I even loved picking out those! He still remembered the Lego store from our trips when he was 6 and 7.

Thanks for this thread! I was looking for things for my Nephew to do while his sister and my DD are at BBB. Where are the build your own light saber and the pirate skull things located?

Thanks!

Go to Ghiradellis and let them each devour their own HUGE ice cream sundae! Believe me, you will get the best pictures ever and they will never forget it. Plus, the ice cream is phenomenal.

Last year on a quick trip to the World we had so much fun at DTD. The cutest picture of the whole trip was our 1 yr old daughter putting many potatos in her sroller and smiling by the potatos heads.. and our 4 yr old son has been saving all of the pocket change around the house for buying more legos at Disney this Sept. He is obsessed- and says as soon as we get there the first day we are going to go buy legos- and then bring them to show mickey at the character breakfast (he thinks mickey will really like them). Our kids really enjoyed sitting at a table by the water, eating popcorn and people watching- which was odd because they are kids who rarely sit for more than a second- so it was a great day.

Well, I have a daughter, but I think small kids like alot of the same things. Plus, she's quite the tomboy sometimes.

Like others have mentioned, definitely stop at the fountains. I usually bring a swim diaper, swimsuit (or change of clothes), and a small hand towel from the hotel. Good, free fun! She could play there for hours if possible.

There's a train ride and a carousel. They both cost a few bucks each, but the kiddos love it.

Once Upon A Toy is a must. Even if just to look around at all the cool toys. The Lego store is a good one. The kids can build at Lego tables outside and there's also a small play area.

Sometimes Ghirardellhi's gives away free candy samples. Yum!!

And they have a boys hair-do at the Bibbidi Boppity Boutique (sp?). Not sure if he would want to do that or not.

Not really a thing to do for the kids but... We have our picture taken every year with Pooh, Tigger, etc. just outside of the Pooh store. We usually catch a party where one person in the party is taking a picture and we offer to take the pic of their whole group and they do the same for us. It's fun to see that one year DS is in my belly, next time he's sitting on my lap!

Glad to hear others' kids HAVE to ride that dumb train! Several days at the parks riding amazing rides and then ya gotta blow four more bucks on that lame-o train! I put my foot down at the merry-go-round with four horses.

My 6 and 4 yr olds loved DisneyQuest last trip (called it Disney Chuck E. Cheese) but we had free ticket upgrades that included it. I'd have a hard time paying full admission for such young kids because they were too short/young for many of the featured games. They also spent ages at the Lego store. DD6 filled a container from the Lego wall and DS4 got a prepacked set. We also love the toystore. DD saved her money for a My Little Pony box and DS got Potato Head parts. The build your own light sabers looked awesome, but my kids aren't into Star Wars yet. If yours are, they also sell those Hotwheels size Disney Racers shaped like Star Wars characters. They were too cool!

The train ride sounds cute. Is it in the Marketplace area?

Yup, mine LOVES the fountains too. They are next to Earl of Sandwich. :)

Thanks! We'll be sure to stop there. :)

Lots of good ideas here... The refillable mugs sound fun! :thumbsup2

What are these mugs in the candy store? :confused3

I'm wondering more about them, too. Do you fill them with candy???

We'll definitely have to accessorize our Mr. Potato Heads here! Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for all of this info! :yay:

How fun! On our last trip, my boys loved the Lincoln Log table at the Wilderness Lodge. They've been playing with Lincoln logs ever since. Hope you have a great trip.... I wish I was leaving in 6 days!!!

I'm loving all these great ideas, too. The Dis is the best, isn't it?! :)

Wondering the same... DTD is all new to us! :confused3

Yum! Ghiradellis is on the list. :cloud9:

That's so cute that he wants to show Mickey his legos! Last year, my youngest wanted to bring Pluto (his favorite) a Snausage doggie treat!!! :rotfl:

OMG! My boys would love the Disney Racers shaped like Star Wars characters... They better start saving their allowance money!!! ;)
