Must do's for San Diego?

Heading to San Diego on a last minute trip with my mom & wondering what are things we don't want to miss?

We wil be there 5 days & will have a rental car. She has been to the San Diego zoo, but nothing else and I've never been to San Diego.

Want to make the most of our trip and would appreciate any and all suggestions. TIA

I would do a cruise of the harbor. We love seaport village and the safari park (wild animal park) up a bit in Escondido.

There are some nice, small museums in Balboa Park, you might check them out.
I love the Zoo, and would do another visit.

We've only gone for day trips to
-Sea world about 11 years ago
-Lego Land- 6-7 years ago
-Zoo 8 years ago
-Wild Park about 8 years ago
DD was little

We will be going for a week. We plan on seeing a few new things. We've never spent the day touring , we've only been at the park mentioned above.


Here's what we have plan so far...
-Sea World
-Zoo
-Midway ship (heard it a must see)
-Old Town
-Some Mall (I forgot the name)
-Little Italy


I will tag along to see what other place I might add to our list.

Old town is a nice place to visit.

USS Midway was spectacular! We also did the zoo and drove out through Coronado Island. We used San Diego as our "base" hotel since it was close to where family lived, but also went to LegoLand and Disneyland. We loved the Midway!

We went to point loam and really enjoyed the day there. Also did a bike your of la jolla. The safari park is worth doing if you can stand the heat. And the midway is awesome!
