We are going to HH to check the resort out next month. I know that it may be too cold to swim but what else should we definitely not miss? The kids are DD 8, DS 6, and DD 4. What great activities for them or the family? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

You will love HH.

It's our home resort. Unfortunately though, we've always gone in the summer. So, I cannot answer the questions about what to do in January. Actually I've always wondered myself. I plan to make a winter go at it some time.

The chamber of commerce will mail out a wonderful book of activities, it took me about six weeks after requesting it to get mine this year, but maybe they could try to get you one sooner.

Here is a couple of good links for information, they should help some (since I do not have first hand info to share):

I do know that they have campfires at night with sing-a-longs and story telling for the kids, and the pools are heated (so, maybe you can brave a winter swim)

Let us know how it is if you decide to go ....

Wishing happy vacations,

Actually, unless there's an unusual spell of really cold weather (so far it's been in the high 60's and 70's), winter is a great time to do some of the things that aren't so much fun in the summer because it's too darn hot. Go to Savannah, a great old South city (try to trolley tour). Also, Beaufort is a charming smaller town to explore for an afternoon. Go to Sea Pines and rent a bike - they have the best bike paths. If it's not too cold, try a kayak tour through the marsh - strong possibility of having dolphins nearby. If you're a shopper, there are a couple of huge outlet malls right off the island. Have a great time.

Disneydawn - I requested the front desk fax me the tentative itinerary for the resort for next week when we'll be there (got the suggestion to have a fax sent from this board) and it came a little bit ago. The following is the list of tentative activities for December 19-22:

Member Exclusive "Behind the Ears Tour"
Pirates of the Calibogue
Music & Lore of the Low Country
Campfire
Dolphin Discoveries
Shadow's Tales
Magic in the Den
Longview Arts and Crafts
Nature Kayaking Trip
Kids Night Out
Longview Cooking Club
Secrets of the Marsh
Southern Snowball Fight
Gyotaku

I've let off a few things on the "holiday itinerary" like the Santa Workship and the teen activities but I hope this gives you an idea of what's avaliable during the winter months - have a great trip!

I've got a scan of a January week activity schedule on my web site. We'll be there the middle two weeks of January. I'm taking my golf clubs and usually get in a few rounds sometime during the period. It's a good time for cheap golf. This year I'm going to play a lot of afternoon 9 holes and see if I can try out a few new courses.

Tommy....love your website! Any idea how much a quick 9 holes would be in the afternoon? My husband might like that. Thanks.

Disneydawn,

In January I usually get one of the little "Golf Books" or one of the other tourist books and look in the back for the coupons. With one of them I pay between $25-$35 for a round of golf with a cart. There's usually about five or more courses to choose from and usually they are the ones that are not really on the Island, but are on the road that leads to the Island. Tell him he has to be careful when he schedules one, because some of them really can't be called "Hilton Head" . The first time I did this I got a tee time at the Beaufort Country Club, and when I drove there, found out that it was about an hour away. If he wants to go first class, he can play at Harbour town - $280 a round...no discount
