Must do In N Out Burger Stop

I let a friend talk me into waiting two hours in line for a burger at the grand opening of the first In-n-Out in Arizona. I believed the hype, and it was the biggest let down of my life. I should have bought a carton full of burgers and scalped them to the people at the back of the line for a hefty profit.

That being said, I know a lot of people who start drooling when I bring up the topic, so there is definitely an addictive quality there that I am missing.

It is funny to hear all the hype about In & Out. I drive past one EVERY day and I rarely stop. They are good for a fastfood burger; much better than McDonalds or Burger King but nothing that I would go out of my way for; even knowing the secret menu. Personally if I am going out for a burger I like the local places, The Counter or Island much better. Guess judging by the long lines in the drive thru everyday thou, I am in the minority on this one.

Love Five Guys Burgers and Fries - how does In N Out compare?

I find 5 guys to be vastly superior, but DH would tell you the exact opposite. Not all that helpful, is it?

In n Out lacks 5 Guys variety of toppings. One In n Out burger is much like another, there's just not much room to customize. I don't care for In n Out fries unless they're animal style - covered in sauce, cheese and grilled onions. I think 5 Guys wins the fry contest hands down.

Yea In n outs burgers are very good but I dont crave them. 5 guys burgers are better and like you say their fries are MUCH better (expecially cajun style). I do not like In n out fries at all and will only get a burger and drink if I go there (which isnt often depsite having one not far from where I live).

We have a smash burger here as well but I havent tried it yet.

Also if any of you live or come to Sacramento I recomend trying squeeze inn. I really like their burgers. teh buns are awsome and the cheeze skirt really makes the burger better IMO.

My ideal burger would be a squeeze with cheese but with toppings from 5 guys (partly because toppings at squeeze are extra and expensive) and fries from 5 guys.

We just tried our first In N Out burger last week and I have to say its comparable. I'd give the edge to 5-guys but then again their prices are higher.

:rotfl2: One of our main reasons why we want to visit Disneyland is to squeeze in a visit to food places that aren't available here in Toronto; In n Out is rather high on the list!

I check google maps to compare the distance between the GCH (where we will stay) and take out places, shops, and restaurants that we can travel to by public transit. Neither of us drive and we're used to using public transit to get around (or bikes) and we looking forward to trying out the local transit.

But mostly we're looking forward to Disneyland! It'll be our first time there!! :yay:

Or get the 4x4. Or get the fries animal style. MMMM....I already had dinner in the oven but maybe I'll stop by later and get some fries.

Love my fries animal style, need to remember to get them closer to well done next time.

Love Five Guys Burgers and Fries - how does In N Out compare?

I like both pretty much equally, 5 Guys is closer to me, 7 min. instead of 30 min, but soon I'll have an In N Out about 15 minutes from me!!!

Self Parking is $15.

Renting a car just to go to In and Out, I don't know. Going to In and Out and then other things like ValCopen suggests, good idea. Beach or shopping.

You can also walk across the resort and take the OCTA bus north to the intersection with Orangthorpe. There is an In and Out near the NE corner of the intersection, and a character warhouse at the SE corner. This is the closest In and Out to DLR. The bus stops nearly in front of it. The return bus is near the SW corner of the intersection.

We may just have to try this in June. Is it really as easy as it sounds, or am I going to end up completely lost over in Compton somewhere? :scared1:

If you try there be sure to get the fried pickels. YUMMY!!!

MY FAVORITE. Now this is a burger worth talking about! :thumbsup2

I made my first trip to Cali. Last year and was told I MUST go to In n Out. So I did. And as I sat there eating my burger, I tried to figure out why this was a must stop. It was good, but no better than any other fast food burger. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, and absolutely wouldn't rent a car to get there.

I agree! I had always wanted to try it and we did on our trip last month. It wasn't bad, but personally, I prefer a Big Mac. ;) I guess there is some secret menu so if I had something different I may have a better opinion about it, but not knowing the secrets I may have missed out.

It is so funny how opinions vary.

I like both 5 Guys and In 'n Out and think they are comparable. 5 Guys is much more expensive than In 'n Out. For me, neither is close. My kids are not fans of either place. They don't like toasted buns...

It is that simple. 2 bus rides and maybe 200 yards of walking and two cross walks. Add more walking if you want to go into the stores around there.

I'm from a very rural area, I had no worries in that area. It's commercial with retail on every corner of the intersection.

Me too, less the Toronto part. I go on vacation to do things I can't at home.

I can go to McDs, Quizno, Pizza Hut, Subway, Denny's......anytime day I choose because I live near them. I do not have the simple option to try other places, so I do that on vacation.

I hear that! Years ago, I went on a 10-day, 10-state vacation through the Northeast (historical sites, monuments, Hershey, Ben & Jerry's, etc.) with all of my in-laws. It was 10 days of Burger King, T.G.I. Friday's, Chili's, Denny's, Pizza Hut, etc. We stopped in Philly--no cheese steaks! We stayed by Chesapeake Bay--no seafood! New York, Boston Harbor, nothin! I'd better stop or all my unresolved anger will come back. :sad2:

I wouldn't spend $50 to rent a car just to go have a burger. Just can't justify that. If you bundle the In n Out trip with other stuff, it could be worth it. Indeed, it's a really great burger and fries. But with this much anticipation I have a feeling you will be somewhat disappointed. Unless of course you don't have any good burger joints in your town/city.

Definitely would not rent a car to go to In & Out, however if you were wanting to go to the beach then renting a car, going to I&O and the beach on the same day, that would be a good solution. :)

If you try there be sure to get the fried pickels. YUMMY!!!

I get fried pickles from BWW, I will in fact, go to BWW JUST for the fried pickles because they are sooooooo good!!!! :)

OMG....I would have insisted on stops after Philly...... :(

Ok, I'm not a huge fan of I&O, I never have been. They have good burgers but the fries are not good at all. At least not IMO. I love crispy fries, but the fries at I&O aren't crispy to me, they are just weird, the texture, the taste....just weird. The only way I will eat the fries is piping hot animal style. If they get cold they are nastier than McDonald's cold fries. I don't get my burgers animal style either, I like them with raw onion instead. The sauce is basically thousand island dressing.....it's good but nothing spectacular. I will say tho, if I'm craving a "good burger" I&O does come to mind. :) The shakes are good too.

As for the secret menu, maybe I don't ask right but when I've asked about it I get a weird look and a "secret menu?" and a gesture with "that's the menu, nothing secret". LOL

Thanks so much--just google-mapped it and it does look ridiculously easy.

:rotfl2: BTDT! :rotfl2:

Back to the original question: is In-N-Out Burger worth going out of your way to try? I love it, but the past couple of DL trips we haven't had a car, and it wasn't worth renting one to get there. But now that I know about the city bus, I'd say it's definitely worth trying that to get my fix! (And maybe the Disney Character Warehouse nearby has a teeny, tiny something to do with it. :rolleyes1)

I think it's better than 5 Guys, but I'm a vegetarian so you probably shouldn't listen to me. ;) (Grilled cheese and fries animal style--oh yeah!) Dh likes both, but prefers In-N-Out. Of course, that may be because we can have 5 Guys anytime, and you always want what you can't have.

Fatburger is WAY better than In 'n Out IMO. more expensive though.

The thing with In 'n Out fries is that they are only good if it is not busy. Otherwise they almost always pull them out before they are done. It is so inconsistent though, so if you order well done they could be perfect or horribly overcooked. Also they do not keep well, they must be eaten fresh.
