Can anyone offer opinions / suggestions for the "not-to-be-missed" activities at Animal Kingdom Lodge?

I thought the kids (dd9 & ds7) would really enjoy the evening storytelling, but are there any other daytime activities that we should make a point of not missing? :confused3

The storytelling was actually our least favorite activity - my boys both tried to get up & leave during the middle but I forced them to stay. The CM telling the story that night had such a strong African accent that no one could understand one word. The little girl beside us kept asking her mom what he was saying, and others were leaving as well. It's a shame, I'm sure we would have enjoyed it had we been able to understand the CM. My boys liked the musical parade at the gift shop at night. The night vision animal viewing was ok, there were only 1 pair of night vision goggles to share between about 5 people, and the animals weren't active the night we did it. It may have been better another night. Another thing we noticed was that every activity started at least 15 min. past the scheduled start time. The activity I enjoyed most (it's for kids too) was the Culinary Tour, I think 3pm or 4pm. I was the only person taking the tour that day. I was walked around Jiko & Boma, shown the kitchen, told about African cooking, and given free samples! This is a great thing to do especially if you're not sure your family will like Boma. They explained every dish to me so that I knew exactly what to suggest to my kids when we ate there. It turned out Boma was my very favorite restaraunt in all of WDW!

When we were there last August they had "bead activities" for the kids. They are listed on the activity board in the lobby and they also hand out sheets of activities at the front desk. The kids had to complete specified activities: one was "Music of the Savanna", another was "Animal Tracking", "Flamingo Activity", etc. There were 5 or 6 in all. After completing each one the kids were given an African bead. At the end they made it into a little bracelet with some twine with the help of a CM. The resort also has night vision viewing of the animals on the savanna. There's a parade for the kids to participate in that starts at the marketplace (gift shop) and winds through the lobby each evening. There are activities at the pool with the lifeguards each day. All of these are free to guests of the resort. There were also craft-type activities listed for a fee. If you haven't been yet, the resort is fabulous!

Thanks for the input! :thumbsup2
I know the kids would love the "bead" activities. And Boma is a family favorite, so we may all like the culinary too (I know I will!).

Good question. Everyone in our party will be over 16 when we go and stay here. The tour sounds interesting. The night vision goggles are a must to me. Thanks for the ideas!

My kids especially enjoyed the animal tracking. They also have paper and crayons to make rubbings on the floor in the lobby. My kids enjoyed that more the scheduled activities.

Aloha live from the AKL!

My family and I greatly enjoyed the early AM sunrise safari. My wife isn't an aniimal lover but she too was incredibly impressed. We spent about two hours out with the animals and later enjoyed a feast at Pizzafari. A MUST DO in my book!
