Asked DD to start and think about Xmas/birthday and what she would like.

So far she has come up with .....

Laptop (trying to talk her out of it as we have laptop and iPad already and think it would be a waste) but her being 8 going on 18 :rotfl2::rotfl2: states that she needs her own!

Then she states a new mobile phone not just a basic one but a blackberry or iPhone so she can get sparkly gem covered cover :rotfl2:

Best get a re-mortgage.

Anyone got ideas on a cheap net book.

Anyone else starting to plan for it.

Dont mention christmas, Mandy might hear :rotfl:

Ive heard girls are getting more demanding.
If its something you may get, would be worth getting before the Vat rise next year.xx :goodvibes

All my laptops (I have three  ) are from Dell. They usually have some pretty good deals going on, and I haven't had any problems whatsoever with any of them. I've had the first one for three years now and its still going strong. Oh, and the front covers can come in different colours and patterns :thumbsup2

Yes very demanding lol.

Yeah my Dell is great DD uses it quite a bit but she states she requires her own!!!!

Hoping it is a phase for this week and next week it's forgotten about :thumbsup2

Doesn't Mandy usually start at 6 months to go ? if she does then thats TOMORROW folks.!!!

I usually have a wee giggle when she starts her thread.

A laptop and an iPhone for an 8 year old? I know kids want 'stuff', but that's far too much (in my opinion). Aside from that, I'd be worried about the safety aspect anyway.

Yes I agree too much but unfortunately for me it's her birthday in dec as well. She is thinking on lines of one for each.

She also has opinion that as husband and I are no longer together she is quids in, unfortunate for her we are still friends and that we will purchase items as 1 Unit (if you understand difficult, to explain in writing) whatever we purchase will be spilt.

Still in process of talking her out of it!!

Trying to think of different angle to coax her towards small items

Yikes! I don't have children so it's probably not my place to say this, but I don't think you and your ex-husband should feel pressured into getting expensive gifts for your child just because you've split up. If she's asking for items like this aged 8, what will she ask for when she's older?! :scared1:

I think EITHER a laptop OR an iPhone is more than enough for both her birthday and Christmas (still too much though, probably). It's up to you though, obviously. I don't mean to offend, it's just astonishing to see a child of that age asking for such items. Keep trying to talk her out of it!! :)

Personally I don't think I would let my DD have an iPhone at 8 years old. It took me till last month to get one for myself! I would be too worried that she might get mugged for it or take it to school and have it stolen or somehing.

Having said that my DD is 4 and she knows how to use both our laptop and our iphones! but usually only under supervision.

I have a December birthday too so I can see her thinking, but maybe she needs to look through the Argos book toys section! :goodvibes

No concerns she is only allowed to take watch out (so she can be back in on time) it's only been a week since a let her play outside the garden.

Argos was used last year worked a treat especially when it was completed in ten pages :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hence to say it was pick in mix for me.

My daughter is 8 and she has a DS, and an Ipod Nano, so far that is it. She has no need for phones or her own laptop. She uses the family computer. She is only allowed to go on the internet supervised. I definitely wouldn't get her an expensive iphone. I would may get a Itouch instead and download games and video stuff on to it for her so I know what she had on there. Luckily she seems to have no idea about Iphones, she is still into her my little ponies and puppy in my pockets.

I think you've got the balance right. :)

Does she have a DS?

They are really great, and have great games for little girls, and compared to laptops and iPhones are very reasonably priced.

I will certianly be happy for our kids to have them from whatever age they ask for one (maybe sooner if we go to Florida and it'd help with the flight!)

If she does then an iPod touch could be a good compromise. :)

Jeeeez how times change in so little times! When i was 8 we had to make do with 2 plastics cups and a peice of string.....and I could only speak to my brother!!!!! :rotfl:

I think that is a lot to ask for a child of 8 years old, when I was 8 I was still playing with my Cindy dolls (I was not a Barbie fan :lmao: )

DD who is 4 has a DS and there is no way she will be getting a phone or a laptop till she can pay for one herself. Kids these days are forced to grow up so quickly.

None of mine had phones or laptops until they were at secondary school/teenagers. Until then they used the family PC or were allowed to borrow my laptop as a treat.

I hope this doesn't sound too harsh but if you give her presents like laptops and expensive phones now then what will there be for her to look forward to as a teenager?

Wow, kids don't stay kids for long do they ? My girls didn't get that kind of thing till they were in their teens. Good luck at finding some bargains hun ::yes::
