Must a buyer notarize the signature on closing docs?

Finally after more than 2 week, I got the closing documents from the title company (Timeshare Title & More).
My problem is that they asked me (the buyer) to notarize my signature on the docs. For me living in Italy it would be quite an inconvenience (long story).
And that would add to the closing time, because at the moment I'm not at home (traveling for work) and I would loose at least another week to do so.

I've read hero on disboards that only the seller must notarize the signature and googling it I've found other confirmations of this.
So, why have they asked me to notarize the signature?

Probably an international buyer law or rule...I would ask the title company or your selling agent for an explanation...we did not have to have ours notorized as buyers, just the sellers. Good luck w/everything!

I suggest that you contact the closing company and discuss it with them. Only they can tell you if it is required or if there is a way around it.

We're in the UK and we didn't have to have our signature notarized. (and a good thing too because it's a real hassle here to find a Notary Public!)

Thank you, you comment is very useful. I've asked the title company for clarification, but knowing that others have not needed to notarize is of a great help. They said that they need more time to find the answers I need, I'll keep you informed when I have an update.

The title company sorted out that I do not have to notarize the signature at all and sent me a new document to sign.
They even do not require two witnesses like for the documents sent to ROFR (not that I understood the usefulness of those signatures as well).

Now I've sent wired transfer and documents, I should close soon. I'm only sorry that this took too much time on my side and the seller has already signed and is waiting for me dealing with this problem.

I should be a new DVC owner soon
