We are new to Fort Wilderness and I was wondering if somone could explain why Musket Mickey is no longer the Mascot for Fort Wilderness. Also, is there a new mascot or official sign or logo?
The image of Mickey sporting a gun wasnt deemed politically correct, the musket was replaced with a banjo for a short time...and now a walking stick seems to be safe enough for them (apparently the banjo brought up some "Deliverance" complexes!!)
I took this picture this past December, 2008 because I couldn't believe my eyes. This is the side of the garbage can as you walk out the back door of the Meadows Trading post. It looks new to me, no scratches, so I wonder?

Also, a lot of the Fort CMs are long timers, so maybe they hid the can when a lot of the switchout was going on and move it around some to avoid it being lifted!!
Since Columbine happened, just about anything associated with firearms has become Taboo/Non-politically correct. Just my thoughts but this is probably a good reason that they chose to redo the logo.
1) As a bluegrass and dixieland banjo pikker, I resent dat.
2) All of us'n pikkers ain't redneks or hilbilies.
3) Some of us'ns liv in flo-da.
NOTE: If you want to see some of us in action, we have informal
anyone-is-welcome-to-come-and-play (or listen) group every Friday
night about 20-min from Disney. See the "Ocoee Parking Lot Bluegrass
Band" on YouTube. Some weeks there are 4-5 of us, some weeks there
are 6-8 or more. Some of us are camping the third week in December
at FW. If you hear some picking, stop by and say howdy.

1) We will be there Dec 16-22.
2) Don't know where we will be (3-RVers, 2-Cabins --- we are in a cabin).
3) But, I would guess at least 2-3 nights we will be jamming. *
* If you hear us, stop by. I will have my spare Morgan "Hobo" 5-string
banjo that I let strangers play. It is tuned so they can easily strum along
by playing cords. Also, we encourage you to sing along, and we DO NOT
grade you on your voice.
