Music for cocktail hour?

We're considering doing a jazz trio for the ceremony and then having them move to cocktail hour...however, we may cut that as we close in on what our total spend would be.

If we did that though, I'm bummed there'd be no music for cocktail hour.

For those of you who had the organ option, did you just forgo music during the cocktail hour? Or is there an option I'm not considering/aware of?

Thanks :goodvibes

I would use the trio for cocktail hour and then use cd or violin, pianist what have you for ceremony. Truth is everyone is so focused on you at the ceremony that I think its a waste of the trio. If you had to pick just one.

I think the part I'm hung up on is...I think in the planning kit I got, they are a 3 hr. minimum. So using them for only the cocktail hour is kind of a waste, b/c I have to pay for all 3 hours anyway. At least that's how it reads in the kit...:confused3

Umm, is it awful of me to say that we had the organ at the WP but I have NO IDEA what was played at my cocktail hour??? I never even thought of it til now! Oops!:rolleyes1 (I'm assuming they had classical music or something played...I'm gonna have to ask my guests now to see if anyone remembers!)

Where is your cocktail hour? We were planning on hiring someone to play, but because ours is in the Whitehall room, apparently music is already piped in (instrumental Disney songs). Our planner told us not to bother with paying our band the extra hour to cover the cocktail hour.

Our pre-reception and reception our in the same venue (ADH) so we have to pay for a DJ for all 5 hours we're there. However, we are getting a guitarist for the ceremony and if I'm paying for 3 hours you can bet he'll be at that cocktail hour too! I'm not sure I'll have the DJ doing anything...I just hope its not weird to have a guitarist sitting around playing in the cocktail hour.

I don't think it will be weird—that's traditionally how it's done: live music for the ceremony and cocktail hour, DJ for the rest of the reception.

I like the previous suggestion of using whatever music is normally piped into your venue for the cocktail hour. Or, if you're having a DJ for the reception, why not have him/her start early for the cocktail hour? If you're not having a DJ, what about an iPod setup that can run throughout the cocktail hour and reception?

I think you could always have them do the 3 hours and if you don't want them to go over have some disney songs to add in at the end. Just a thought.
