Murray Hill Transportation - the good and the bad

I'm in the process of doing the trip report but I wanted to let you know my experience.

The Good:

1. It was only $80 roundtrip with the $5 off coupon - $100 total including a $10 tip each way.
2. He was there and easy to find when we got off the plane
3. The town car was immaculate.
4. Easy to get to Pop Century
5. Totally picked us up in time for the ride home and got us to the airport in plenty of time.
6. Had numerous changes, including times and even airlines prior to our arrival and they worked with us VERY well and not a problem.

The Bad:

There was really only one thing but it really bothered my dh and I. I had specifically asked if we could use cc to pay. I wanted a receipt, especially b/c I wanted the ride back to the airport! I emailed the company and they emailed back that they definitely took visa and mastercard. But when we got to Pop Century (and it was almost 12:30 am at that point), the driver argued with me b/c he didn't want me to use my cc. I told him very firmly that I had the email with me, permitting me to use it and I wanted to use it. Finally, he grudgingly agreed, and then proceeded to take, I kid you not, 20 minutes to "find" everything he needed to take the cc. In the interim, my dh is going ballistic b/c there was no line at the counter, but while we were waiting for this guy, a big bus of people came so then we had to wait in a long line for our room.

So, although there was a lot of good; I was very disappointed in this person's attitude and he started our trip off on the wrong foot. I got this driver as a surprise for my dh and although it started well, it didn't finish so hot on that first night.

I would email John at Murray Hill and make him aware of the situation...they can't fix it if they don't know about it. I have used them in the past with no problem- I called in advance and gave them my credit card info( paid for round trip- no tip-paid tip at time of service) just to avoid any situation like that! We actually used them when we got stuck in Hurricane Charley and only used their services one way- they promptly issued a refund to my cc for one way. I can't imagine how you were feeling- especially at that hour! :earseek: What was your drivers name??

Definately email them- they need to know! Your driver should have been prepared- I am sure you are not the only people in the world to use their cc!
 
I called a few days before our trip to ask about CC payments because DH wanted to pay with CC. He said we wouldn't have any recourse if we paid cash and they never came to pick us back up - good point! John said to pay the driver with my CC when we got to Pop. OK, fine.

We get to Pop, I am not paying attention. I give the driver the tip in an envelope and I go to check in. Well, here comes DH to tell me I never paid the driver. Hmm. No, I didn't! Leave DS in the lobby with the huge pile of luggage, go back out to pay the driver. VERY embarrassing! But no hassle about using the CC!

DH has recently said he felt like there were some snide remarks about our REALLY early pick up time (4:45 AM) from the driver, but I don't think the driver meant to be ugly. It was early! We didn't WANT to leave that early but that was the flight we ended up with!

Otherwise our experience was great! Our pick up at the airport, grocery stop, booster seat, photo at the gate - flawless.

Going back to the airport there were some minor things, like a car seat in the trunk that took up space so we ended up having to put some luggage in the car. No booster seat going back to the airport, but there wasn't much traffic at 4:45 AM! DS is 8, probably doesn't really need the seat but we use one at home.

We will be trying Magical Express when we go back, but Murray Hill was good.
