"Murphy" The Fantasmic Dragon returns!

So excited to see him. We thought he may still be MIA when we are there in December. My grandkids have only watched Fantasmic at WDW - so this will be a treat.

Hi, can anyone please tell me if Murphy is still back in action?

I had heard he suffered a neck mishap a few months ago, but I'm not sure if this thread was created before or after the incident. Going next week, but I don't want to bother watching the show if he will be a no show. Besides it may rain so it may be canceled, was really looking forward to the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks.

I'm not sure if she's there or not right now, but there is so much more to Fantasmic! than just the dragon. It always makes me wonder just a little if people (not you specifically) realize how amazing Fantasmic! is and that she is just one part of it.

As for the rain, both Fantasmic! and fireworks can happen in the rain, it just depends on how much rain. Of course, lightening can cancel just about anything.

Yes, the rest of show is really good and even though WDW has its own stadium for their Fantasmic, I feel the DL version is better. But how much more amazing does an enormous fire breathing dragon make the show, compared to the climax being a Maleficent actor shrieking and flailing her arms wildly when Murphy is out sick.

My two favorite parts are when the Evil Queen comes out and transforms into the Witch, and when the dragon appears. Very cool to see the silhouette of its head through the shadows right before the light hits. It's very disappointing to me to wait 1.5 hours for the show to start, spend 20-25 minutes stretching my neck so I can see through the crowd, only to learn that Murphy is out sick. Even more disappointing when you are traveling with first timers and kids who have never seen the show. A huge dragon to a 5 year old is very impressive, a screaming Maleficent is confusing and possibly traumatizing , not to mention a weak climax. It's just not the same experience without the dragon.

I watch F! last month and Murphy was running fine.

You are right that it is not the same when Murphy is out there on stage when we see Maleficent on that tower during the dragon scene. It am so used to it since the summer of 09 when Murphy was down until it made its debut in September 2009. It was disappointing when DL did its Summer Nighttastic promotion on the dragon and didn't made in time for that summer.

I was there 2 weeks ago and Murphy did not make an appearance. :sad2: I'm hoping it was just a temporary thing.

...It's just not the same experience without the dragon.

I agree with this statement. However, I think a lot of people on this board give the impression to new people on this board that Fantasmic! is a 20 minutes of fluff with 3 minutes of fire-breathing amazingness. I completely disagree.

If I never knew there was a dragon and were to see Fantasmic! without her I would still be amazed at the sword-fighting, in love with the prince and princess, fascinated by the monkeys, and cheering for Mickey.

It's an amazing show, with a great dragon. Without her, it's still an amazing show. :wizard:
