We are looking at cabin rentals in Murphy, what is there to do near there?

We have a Cabin in Blue Ridge Ga and we go to Murphey NC occasionally ( it is only 20 minutes away). Honestly, there is NOT much to do. There is a great flea market that sells triple yolked eggs and other stuff. That is about it besides a Wal-Mart!:p

P.S. We usually just vegge out in the hot tub or enjoy downtown Blue Ridge (there is alot to do there!)

So is Blue Ridge the closest city with things to do?

My parents live in Blairsville, GA, which is the first town you come to from Murphy headed toward GA. Murphy is where they go to find a Wal-Mart or to go to the Flea Market, but I don't think they've ever done anything there but shop. However, if you drive a bit into Tennessee from there, you'll find whitewater rafting companies (but only at certain times of the year is the river running). Franklin, NC isn't horribly far from Murphy - 30-45 minutes if my memory is correct - and there's a big antique mall there.

That's all I can tell you. I think it'd be mostly a trip of relaxing and enjoying the quiet and not a lot of activities if you stayed there in Murphy.

I think so. It has SOOOOOO much to do. You can spend a whole day (atleast, in downtown Blue Ridge). You must ride the Blue Ridge Railway - it is a blast. Ellijay has some stuff too. My family's favorite spot is Vogel state park in GA. It is 30 minutes from Murphey and they have swimming, boating, hiking, playgrounds, cabins and EVERYTHING!!!!!

Thanks, I am looking at this because my parents want to come up from Florida to go to the mountains. They want us to join them, but I just can't be in the boonies. I have to have things to do. My idea of a vacation is Myrtle Beach or Disney, get the picture. Sitting and looking a scenery isn't for me, also, I think my kids would really be bored.

You can always rent a cabin in Murphey (if it is reasonable and you can drive to these places). What price are they quoting you?
Blairsville GA is VERY popular and they usually have cabins from 75 - 150/per night.

If you don't want to go to the boonies, DON'T go to Murphy!! :p I would suggest the Bryson City, Cherokee, Asheville area. This would allow you to be "in the heart of things" and take day trips to other areas. Gatlinburg is only 30 miles from BC/Cherokee, and Asheville 1 hour. Asheville is a large city (for the mountains! ;) ) and has the Biltmore Estate, malls, etc. Gatlinburg is a cozy little town with outlet shopping in Pigeon Forge. Bryson City has alot of outdoor activities, the Great Smoky Mountains, GSM Railroad, whitewater rafting on the Nantahala, 10 miles to the Harrah's Casino, etc...

I don't mean to be a downer, but I can't imagine spending the night in Murphy, much less a vacation week!

How about the Lovinggood/Ramsey family reunion???? (My step dad was born and raised in Murphy, NC!) :D

TC:cool:

I dont think I would stay in Murpht if you want something to do.

I would suggest Gatlinburg,Piegon Forge Tennessee.I would also say Asheville,There is alot more to do here in Asheville than Murphy.I would also suggest Cherokee and then you would be in between Asheville and Tennessee.Cherokee has Harrahs casino if you enjoy stuff like that.

Misty
