Does anyone know if Disney plans to replace all of the sofa beds at the DVC Villa hotels with Murphy beds? These are so much nicer and would make a difference in where we will stay at. Thanks for any info.

The plan, as stated at the December 2018 annual meeting, is to replace the sofa beds at all DVC resorts with the Murphy pull down beds from the wall, likely on a schedule that has it done at each resort when the resort undergoes a full (not just cosmetic) refurb -- that could still be a lot of years away for a number of resorts since a full refurb is something that is suppose to occur about every 14 years (but there has been mention it could be moved to every 12 year; the cosmetic refurb occurs halfway between the complete refurbs). Someone has mentioned the beds will not be added to OKW because apparently it cannot be done there because of the nature of the walls, but OKW was not specifically excluded from the generally applicable announcement at the 2018 meeting.

Riviera has been getting them as the new resort. SSR is currently getting them as part of its full refurb, which has actually been delayed by the Covid problems, and is now only partially complete. BRV was supposed to start such refurb in 2020 but, as far as I am aware, that has not started yet. Following BRV, the next full refurb is supposed to be HHI starting in 2022.

Does that mean we lose the sofa?

At OKW, studios have 2 real Queen size beds, no sofa sleeper. There are no dedicated studios, they are all lock-off units to make a 2 bedroom. In OKW one bedrooms, the living room queen sofa sleeper would be next to impossible to replace, because there is a bank of windows, and I really wouldn't want to lose the sofa out of the living room.

No. If you have seen pictures of Riviera snd redone SSR, the way it works is that the Murphy bed and the couch are part of the same unit, with the couch attached to the wall. You pull down the bed from the wall and while doing so the the back of the couch folds down and ends up under the bed. You do not even remove the pictures hanging on the wall, which also end up under the bed still attached to the wall that has been pulled down.

It does mean you lose the sofa when the bed is down and vice versa.

but you lost the sofa when you pulled the bed out of it with the old sleeper sofas. The murphy beds are way more comfortable and easier to pull up and down than dealing with the sleeper sofas. No couch pillows to deal with, drives me crazy trying to find a place to put them out of way
