My DD turns 14 in FOUR DAYS omg...

Anyway, for her birthday party, she decided she'd like to have a "Murder Mystery" party, and her dad set it up for her online about a month ago. I informed them that this is THEIR project, and that I would take care of the food and nothing else (hah, like that's gonna happen). The party is Saturday and they are just now getting things printed out and such.

Looking over the whole process, it looks like an awful lot of work and really doesn't seem like it'd be much fun, yanno? :confused3 I mean, maybe for older teens or adults, yeah, but I can't really see these kids doing this whole thing; it's almost like a play kinda thing...

Does anyone have any kind of experieence with murder mystery parties? The site they're using is THIS ONE and they're doing the "Death of a Vampire" mystery.

It'll be fun to make the coffin cake, anyway ;)

That sounds like a lot of fun. I went to one when my friend turned 16, which was over 20 years ago but I remember we all got dressed up and had a good time.

It makes me think of the Golden Girls' episode where they go away for a Murder Mystery weekend, that episode was one of my favorites :goodvibes

We just did one for Halloween off of this site! It was really a lot of fun!
But everyone has to be a good sport and get into it, if they feel dumb acting it out then it is not going to work.

With that said, everyone loved it (a bunch of 30ish couples). The only issue we had was that we wished there was one more round of clues before the solution because there really wasn't enough information to guess who the murderer was.

If you have any specific questions I would be happy to answer.

We attended one for New Years Eve; ours was themed with a winery. It was fun for about 30 minutes but one couple really wasnt interested and became less and less engaged as the story went on. I think it would be great fun if everyone is really into it. For us, it became a chore just to finish.

It probably depends on the guests. I have a 13 year old and a 15 year old and I don't think either of them would like it if it involves acting out, they just don't like that type of thing. I'm sure your DD knows her friends, though, and they will probably have a good time.

Oh man, I think my DD13 would LOVE that, and so would her friends....what a fun idea!

It probably depends on the group - my daughter and her boyfriend at the time had several murder mystery parties here while they were in high school. They themed them down to the food, decorations etc and had a blast. Their whole group was into it but they were all in showchoir together so they might have been more into it than other kids.
