Day 6

I must warn you, this day of sugar will end on a sour note. Dh he got sick while watching Illuminations and blamed it on the day of eating junk. You’ll see why…

Our morning consisted of a tiny nibble in the room before heading to Epcot. We had a late breakfast scheduled in Norway to see the Princesses so I wanted to make sure we were all hungry for it. We saw Belle in the lobby wearing her gold gown. In the dining room we had Mulan, Snow White, Aurora, and Mary Poppins. This was the first encounter we’d ever had with Mulan so I think she was Dd8’s favorite. Dd4 was shy with everyone, refusing pictures or hugs, until Aurora showed up. Suddenly, she jumped out of her chair and hugged Sleeping Beauty like she didn’t have a shy bone in her body. I think we’ll have to conclude that Aurora was Dd4’s favorite.

On to the food—our drinks arrived quickly and the foods were brought out promptly. The caramel rolls and fruit started us off. The fruit was fresh and yummy. The rolls were very good. Dd8 who doesn’t eat much ate more at this meal than I’d seen her eat in a very long time. The caramel rolls were just the start for her. The platter arrived soon and was pretty good, for the most part. The hashbrown casserole was divine! The eggs, bacon, and sausage were all your typical eggs, bacon and sausage. The biscuits were stale, though. I picked the middle out of mine because it was the only soft part on it. We asked for more biscuits which we got quickly, and happily, these seconds were much fresher. The butter served with them was yummy, too. I think it had a sweetness to it, possibly honey butter? Anyway, we also had refills of the caramel rolls and hashbrowns. We left there completely stuffed.

This was to be our last Epcot day so even though we were stuffed from a late breakfast I managed to fill the rest of our day and evening with as many of the treats I’d read about on these boards as I could.

Dh had a fiesta margarita in Mexico.

We shared a baklava in Morocco.

I asked at the Rose and Crown podium if they could do a take-out of Stickey Toffee Pudding for me. Because it was mid afternoon and they weren’t busy they said they would allow it (they’d told me “No” a couple nights earlier during a busy dinnertime when I’d asked). They said I had to enter the restaurant and sit at a table but they would prepare it to go for me. That was perfectly fine. I was seated on the patio and had the pudding within minutes which I took over to the rose garden area of England and shared with Dh. Neither of us knew what it would be beforehand, and we still don’t really know now. I think it was a cake probably made with figs or prunes or dates, some kind of dark, sticky fruit. A vanilla, custard-like sauce surrounded it. It was really good but not heavenly. I’m glad I tried it, though. Dh also had a beer from the UK.

A trip to WDW wouldn’t be the same without a boat ride over to Beaches and Cream for a No Way Jose. It was as fabulous as always and earned Dh’s “best dessert of the trip” award. The girls also shared a hot dog and fries here. Mom felt they needed some kind of protein in their tummies to counter all the junk we were eating!

Disney2006621.jpg

The hot sun was getting to us so a Kaki Gori in Japan was in order. We’d never had one before and assumed it was just your run-of-the-mill snowcone. It was much more flavorful than your ordinary one. The flavoring syrup was very fruity and sweet and tasted great! I think they had strawberry but it might have been cherry. Either way they had red lips afterwards!

Disney2006622.jpg

I had to see what a German Chocolate cookie in Germany’s candy store was all about. This sucker was huge! It was a chocolate chip cookie about and inch and a half think, with a slathering of caramel on it, then topped with a layer of coconut. It was very good but I could only handle it in small bits. I’d have a bite or two and then put it away. Later I’d nibble a bit more. It was really sweet and eating it slowly made it last most of the evening.

While waiting for Illuminations, Dh got two orders of fish and chips for all of us to split again. It was the same as before, always good. Dh put vinegar on his fish. I’ve always been repulsed by his liking of this, but tonight I let him go for it. Within a matter of 20 minutes or so he would start feeling ill. At the time he said it was probably a matter of eating so much junk all day long and then topping it off with vinegar that did him in. Now he says it was probably a virus. Who knows? The day of sweets sure couldn’t have helped. And it wasn’t over yet. Not for me anyway.

While Dh and the girls were fish eating, I hit the French bakery for late night treats to have in the hotel. I’d loved the Sacristain from previous trips so I had to have that again. I thought I’d remember a very slight custard in the middle of the dough but this one didn’t have any. It was basically croissant like dough, twisted up, with chocolate chips in it. I preferred it the way I remembered it. The custard added a lot to it.

Dd8 is a huge cheesecake fan, like her Momma, so I got her a slice and got the Praligne for Dh. I didn’t know what it was but it looked chocolatey so I thought he’d like it. As it turns out he never ate it because he was sick. I had a few nibbles and didn’t really like it, but I’m not a big chocolate fan. I think it had a hazelnut flavor to it. The cheesecake was fabulous, though. It always is.

Thankfully, that completes Day 6. Our stomachs need the rest!

Days 7 and 8 soon to come.

Great reviews so far. I love the pictures! Looking forward to reading (and seeing) Days 7 and 8. :)

Your reviews and pictures are terrific! Thank you so much for posting; I have to try one of those German Chocolate cookies!

Thanks for the great reviews and pictures. Boy they are making me hungry and my sweet tooth is aching!

:goodvibes

That treat from the French bakery looks yummy!!!

Can't wait to read the rest of your review.

Thanks, not I got to go and get a snack!

What's in a No Way Jose? Reading this thread has me considering getting some snacks that aren't included in the dining plan and I normally don't spend "souvenier money" on food.

The No Way Jose was a sundae big enough for 4 people to feed on. It's made with vanilla and chocolate ice cream, drizzled with peanut butter and hot fudge sauces, covered in whipped cream, sprinkled with peanut butter and chocolate chips, and topped with a cherry. Delish!

Day 7

Dh had been out of commission throughout the whole night so he elected not to join the girls and I immediately this morning. His plan was to rest in the room for a while, then catch up to us at Magic Kingdom. The girls ate a bit in the room and then we were off to MK for the rope drop. I had planned my morning itinerary so that we’d be in the Main Street vicinity mid morning so I could try the much hyped French Toast Loaf at the Main Street Bake Shop. It was very, very good! It was a thick slab of sweetness that Dd8 and I devoured in no time! It will probably be a must-have on our future trips. Unfortunately, Dh is the cameraman usually, and without him with us we didn’t get a photo of the treat. Trust me, though, it’s wonderful!

I can’t recall what else the girls might have snacked on prior to our late lunch. My guess is they just munched on granola bars or something like that that I would’ve packed in our backpack. I don’t think we stopped anywhere else for nibbles. We were saving up for our lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern.

I’d made ADR’s for a 2:30 lunch at LTT. My plan was that we would get to eat in the air conditioning while the parade rolled by outside the restaurant. When we checked in we requested a table by the window so we could watch the parade but that wasn’t available. Oh well. We just took what they gave us, though the restaurant was quite bare. A window table shouldn’t have been a problem. Several were open as we walked to our table so I’m not sure what the reason was that they couldn’t honor our request.

On to the food. I’d really been hoping that the children’s menu would still be the healthy test menu, because my girls would’ve eaten it with no problems, but the waiter said it was just a “test” and had reverted back to the old children’s menu. Dd8 settled on the corn dog nuggets, something she’d never tried before but found she LOVED! Dd4 had the macaroni and cheese, which was the same Stouffer’s mac n cheese that’s served at the character dinner. It was cheesy and good, but a pretty small portion. She had it finished in no time at all. Both kids’ meals were served with raw carrot chips which they nibbled on, and a huge blueberry muffin. I picked at one of the muffins and it was really good, sweet enough to be blueberry cake. I’m not complaining! I live for desserts.

Dh still wasn’t feeling great but he insisted he needed food in his belly so he and I agreed to share the William Tell Pasta (I think that’s the name). It was penne pasta with chicken, mushrooms, and spinach in a blush sauce. It ranks as one of the tastiest pastas I think I’ve ever had.

I knew I wanted dessert here after having seen photos of the Grilled Pound Cake. Dh had a bite or two of it, Dd4 refused to try it, but Dd8 loved it and ate as much as I did of it. I really liked the praline sauce on it. It wasn’t the best dessert of my week, but it was pretty good. I apologize that these photos turned out so dark.

Disney2006638.jpg

For the evening we went back to Downtown Disney for some shopping. Dinner was takeout from Earl’s yet again. This time I tried their sandwich of the day, BBQ beef. It was the same roast beef they use for the Beef and Bleu, just smothered with BBQ sauce. It was alright, but I guess I was hoping for shredded beef instead of the layers of sliced meat.

Disney2006641.jpg

Dh wanted to rest his tummy some more so I convinced him to stick with just a cup of soup. The only soup offered was tomato but it turned out to be an awesome cup of soup! I took a spoonful of it and loved it! The girls shared a pizza sandwich, which was just the toasty bread with marinara sauce and cheese on it. Dd4 complained (no surprise) so Dd8 got to eat the whole thing. She thought it was so fantastic that she asked me to try to make something similar at home. We also picked up an English Trifle but it wasn’t what I thought it’d be. I was expecting cake and pudding layers but this was jello with fruit chunks under a layer of pudding, under a layer of whipped cream. I realize this probably isn’t an authentic English Trifle so saying I was disappointed won’t offend the English, I hope.

Day 8

In making our ADR’s it was Dd8’s wish that our last day be at Rainforest Café so we could end the trip with a Volcano. All of us remembered the Volcano as being the best dessert of our previous trip, so we had to have it again. But before we could have dessert we had to have something more substantial….

Dd8 just wanted mozzarella cheesesticks so we indulged her with an appetizer order. She was in heaven. Mmmm….fried cheese. Dd4 wanted pasta again, so mac n cheese it was.

Dh was now ready to give his tummy a test drive on something real so he got a big shrimp plate. I don’t even remember what it was called but it had shrimp of every kind on it. He loved it all, and his tummy didn’t mind, either.

Disney2006652.jpg

I ordered the Cyclone Crab Cakes, which I’d had before and knew I loved them. I have no idea how authentic tasting these crab cakes are to what folks in the Northeast get, but I’ve got to say, RFC’s crab cakes are delish! I absolutely love them, and have no doubt that the next time we go to RFC I’ll be getting them again. The slaw and rice that comes with it is pretty darn tasty, too!

Disney2006653.jpg

The Volcano was really, really good, too, but it’s so big that you just can’t possibly finish it. We sure tried, though. And I’m sure we’ll try again another time, too! The only server of our whole trip to warrant a specific mention was Steve at AK’s RFC. He was outstanding. Dd8 even told him, unprompted, what a great server he was.

Disney2006654.jpg

That night we went to Magic Kingdom to end our trip with the fireworks once more, and to see the late Spectro parade. When the kids started to get hungry we popped into Casey’s. It was very busy but the line moved quickly. I don’t know how but we managed to find space in the “stadium” to eat and watch the cartoon clips. The girls really liked seeing the old cartoons while munching on their dogs and cheese fries. Dh and I shared some, too. It was still good, but had been better the first time we’d had them earlier in the week. Maybe it was the first time experience??? Sorry, no pictures of this meal. We forgot.

To close out the night, on our way out of the park we stopped in the Main Street Bake Shop one last time. I got an Apple Charlotte, which was like a bread pudding almost, with apples, raisins, and walnuts in it. I took it back to the hotel and had it as a midnight snack. It was OK, but I don’t think I’d order it again. Maybe if it had been warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream I would’ve liked it better. Oh well. I have my memories of other, better desserts to remember this trip fondly with!

That ends our food report until our next trip. Hopefully you haven’t gained too many pounds reading about all the sweets I had!

What a great food report! Thanks for all the photos - really helps to see what the food is actually like. I'm SO hungry right about now, can't wait to fly across the pond and start munchin'!

Thanks again!
