This is our first trip to Islands of Adventure and really like the look of the Mummy ride. Is this suitable for a 9 and 5 year old? My 5 year old loves coasters, but will this be too scary for him?
The Mummy ride is at Universal Studios not Islands of Adventure. The first part is a slow dark ride but the last part is a high speed roller coaster. The coaster does not go upside down but does travel in the dark, similar to Space Mountain or Rock 'N' Rollercoaster. The height requirement is 48 inches so I don't know if your 5 year old will be tall enough to ride though.
A little off topic....We were at Disneyland this summer and were riding the new and improved Space Mountain (which is absolutely great, by the way) and there was this little girl who must have been about 4 years old but met the height requirement. We couldn't believe she was going on the coaster. When it was all done she was grinning from ear to ear!!! Some little kids just love coasters. My husband...not so much.
My son was 7 and loved the Mummy. The coaster part is not bad. As long as he doesn't have any fears of dark, fire, bugs or mummies, he should be just fine.
my seven year old loved it, but she loves fast coasters....my five year old took some pushing just to get him to the family child swap room....he didn't like the darkness and spooky sounds of the queue. I'd say it all depends on your childs tolerance for all things "spooky" and dark.
My 5 year old would be bored stupid if I only stuck to ET and Barney! Last year when she was 4 she rode everything at Universal that she was big enough for (sadly not big enough for The Mummy - I know she would have loved it!). Men in Black was one of her favourite rides on the whole trip!
Mummy is an awesome ride my 5 year old cried he was a hair too short for that and Hulk. He loves roller coasters. He's not the Barney type. He's a nut. He was so excited he was able to go on his first upside down roller coaster this summer at a local park. It depends on what type of rides your child is into.
