Mummy ride - Please, I need help.

When we visited Universal Studios in Nov. '04, my DH and 8 yr old daughter waited in line for the Mummy ride and when it came time to board, they were told they both had to remove their glasses. Well my DH is totally blind without his specs so he chose not to go and was directed to an exit and my daughter did not want to go by herself so she also missed the ride. They thought there was some sort of inversion in the ride but from reading the boards, I don't believe this is the case. Can anybody tell me why you must remove your eyeglasses?

No, it doesn't go upside down.

My son, the Mummy employee, said that they suggest you remove your glasses but no one is forced to remove them. They suggest it because everyday they find several pair of glasses that have been lost on the ride and broken.

If someone actually told him he couldn't ride without removing his glasses, then the only explanation was they may have had a "rescue" at the ride who didn't know. A rescue is like a substitute from another ride that rescues when they are short on workers.

I know it won't help now that you are back but if it ever happens again ask to speak to a lead. I'm sorry you missed the ride.

My gf wore her glasses each time. Hers fit firmly on her head and she had no problem with them. No one told her to remove them either.

This is my favorite ride!!!! You cannot miss it! It is fast enough to give you a thrill but not scary like the Hulk....

We are planning our first trip to these parks (although we do Disney every year)..We have hoppers and are wondering..Are they within walking distance or is there transportation between the 2? We leave in ONE WEEK

both parks are connected to citywalk as the hub. it's a 5 to 10 minute walk. or you can take the cornfield.

I rode mummy about 5 times in a row - I loved this ride. We got front row a couple of times, thanks to FOTL. I just loved how this wasn't just a speed thing - it had a story to it and great props! It had pyrotechnics and lighting that is beyond description for a theme park ride. I think you really need to experience to understand the hype. When it first opened, Universal had a link to download that gave you a good idea of how the ride it like, and the making of it - I don't know if it's still there, but that advertisement had me waiting anxiously!

I am considering riding this attraction but would like to know what other coaster it can be compared to. Is it scarier than RNRC? I love that ride but the take off is a killer. If I can handle RNRC can I handle this ride? The only part that scares me about coasters is that tickly feeling you get in your tummy. Will I feel that on this ride?

I would say it is most like Space Mountain. It has one fast launch like RnRC but doesn't go upside down. The turns and twists are more like Spacemountain.

Is it as fast and rough as Space Mountain? Do you sit side by side? I am trying to talk my DDs (10 and 12) into riding the ride, but they like to sit side by side. We all LOVE the RNRC. Thanks so much~~

The roller coaster part is fast and very smooth. There is a part in the ride when it stops suddenly. This is not the coaster part of the ride though but in the dark ride part when you are not going very fast.

You will sit side by side, similar to the Dinosaur ride in Animal Kingdom where each person has their own restraints. (4 people to a row--4 rows to a car.)

it's not a traditional indoor roller coaster. think of it as more of a dark ride with the car transporting you through the story. the coaster parts are broken up, as in escaping the mummy. the back row of the cars provides more air time than the front rows. it's extremely smooth, and the ride uses track tricks like space mountain and big thunder to make it seem you're moving faster than you really are. don't miss it.

Yes, backpacks still have to be put in lockers. Only small fanny packs are allowed on the ride.

Oh this sounds just ace - I can't wait to ride it - I was really worried it was going to be a rollercoaster like Rock n Roller - and i don't do upside down!

I love Dinosaur and Superman so this should be great. Just a question though - in the queuing area are there any real actors? I went to the mummy attraction at US California a couple of years ago and there was this guy who we thought was animatronic -you know controlled by one of the levers you can oull - and he jumped off the podium and chased me! I was scared witless and couldn't go out in the dark on my own for months after that!

We were there is December, everyone went on the Mummy but me, even my grandkids 9 and 10. The GD was crying when she got off, but of course did go on again and was fine, just the initial shock scared her now she loves it. We are going again in August, should I go? I love Dinasour, was on Raiders in California, loved it. Was also on the ride at Sea World, roller coaster and water splash down, loved it. But I don't like space mountain or Hulk type coasters. Should I just bit the bullet and stop my GK's from laughing? Also Spiderman is my favorite ride and RF is really neat also love Tower of Terror.

if you happen to be riding this with my DH and I...we always yell out "hard stop" right before this happens.

great ride...and I've had some interesting interaction with "actors" in the queue. The first time we rode it a real freaky guy scared the crap out of me...and did so for the next 7 times we rode the ride that day. finally I just started playing around with him.

Last time we went, we were stuck in a very long queue wait for some reason, and one of the actors was freakin' out the girl behind me (who started to get annoying after a while.) finally I turned to the actor, patted his cheek, told the girl - "see - he's not so bad..." pat pat pat "he's wont' harm you" pat pat pat...hehehe...yeah, I manhandled an actor there.
