I realise that 2 different UY is like having separate memberships.

But didn't I read (or maybe I dreamt it) that you could have multiple UY and transfer points between memberships online through the portal?

Or is it still recommended for ease to have one UY?

You can use transfered points online but the transfer needs to be done by MS.

To add, the points don’t work online in the home resort booking period. You still have to call.

My guess is because OTU points are now put online and those can’t be used before 7 months so I bet they set up the program to make sure people couldn’t use those that way.

ah ok. So im Better off in the same UY for other contracts then......

thanks

As someone who made the rookie mistake of having multiple UY, I strongly recommend not to have them and only go with one UY. It is a pain in the butt to deal with them and plan out several different years in advance which trip you are using which UY in. Also, are points are now a mess with all the shutdowns and canceled trips, which we had not planned on....... just because you have a plan on how to use them, don't mean it will all fall in place. You might have to cancel one or two trips and then either be forced to loss those points are take a trip you normally wouldn't.

Also, DVC doesn't guarantee you the ability to transfer points between your own contracts, they could limit it to only one transfer between contracts at anytime.

Just to clarify this. Transfers are allowed per the POS so that will always be the case. They can’t take that away. However, it doesn’t list a limit so that is the part that can be changed.

Ah I have 13 contracts under 1 UY. I have seen another one I would like to add, but its not the same UY

I may therefore wait until one comes out which matches :)

Yeah I wouldn’t go against the trend now and change your use years.

i am aiming for Dec use years. We are most likely to travel in the kids summer holiday so late July august and I like the idea of new points Each new year and my dues done.

Dues are payable for everyone at the same time. UY doesn't matter.

Summer travelers would be better off with April / June UY. Traveling in August on a Dec UY means that should you need to cancel your trip, you can no longer bank your points and have only 3 months to use them.

Best rule of thumb I read here on UY is pick 4 consecutive months you are least likely to travel (for me this is June July Aug Sept) and the next month is your best UY. So, I chose Oct.

Alternate rule, pick the most likely months for your travel (perhaps for you this would be June Jul Aug) and your UY should be the one your travel period begins with (June) or the one closest to but before (April). If there's a chance you'd take a spring break trip sometimes in March, I'd choose February UY.

when are annual dues all owed then?

as UK visitors we will be booking at the 11 month mark soif we weren’t going in the summer, we would be cancelling well before we would expect to travel.

saying that, if our current contract submission doesn’t pass the I may look at a feb use year, but AKL most of them I see are Dec

Probably not a good example. The banking deadline for December use years is the following July 31. If you don't cancel the August trip at least 31 days in advance, your points go into holding, anyway. That is true for any trip cancelled 30 days or less prior to the scheduled arrival. So December is an OK use year for August use years, as a timely cancellation would still allow current use year points to be banked.

Dues are payable in January, regardless of the use year. I am from the UK too bu have Aug UY

Dues are paid by calendar year, Bills come out in December for everyone. They are due by January 15th, although they don’t penalize if paid by February 15th.

Monthly payments can be set up as well but I think it needs to be from a US bank account.

No matter the UY, this does not change, I have both Aug and Dec UY and my dues come and are paid at the same time.

One other thing (didn't see if it was mentioned already) but with the same UY you can easily combine pts at the 11 month window (or 7 month window if you own different home resorts).

If you are transferring pts between contracts with different UY months, then you can transfer pts and bank them and transfer current UY pts but you cannot borrow transferred pts, so it can still be more complicated if you are trying to use borrowed pts for a reservation with multiple contracts.

Yes, true, if you are cancelling 31+ days out, there is still time to bank. So, not really a valid point.

I'm just not a person that likes to be down to the wire. I assume if I'm cancelling a trip it is for a fairly unexpected reason and I may want to try to reschedule it for ASAP or at least think about my options a bit, maybe try to rent them, etc without being pressed for time.

I'd also like more time to use any banked points I may have on my reservation.

In terms of emergency need to cancel, in which case holding is always a factor, I'd like to have the most time possible to use / rent my points especially with the 60 day holding rule on top of the matter. Again, I'd rather have more than 3(ish) months.

December isn't horrible for summer use, but not what I'd choose for myself.

If I traveled to WDW year-round with multiple trips, I'd likely opt for 2 UYs to stay more in my comfort zone. I know some people could care less about UY.
