After a conversation with the Timeshare Store, it was recommended I not buy a contract with a use year other than the use year I have for all my other contracts (February). So that got me to thinking how prevalant multiple use years are and what problems arrise from that.

So please take the poll and make any comments regarding issues you have had (if any) dealing with multiple use years.

I know lots of DVCers have multiple UYs, but I value simplicity above all so will only maintain one UY. I've run into enough challenges over the years moving points around (for various reasons) with super helpful CMs, but if I had multiple UYs it would have likely been far more complicated (if not impossible).

I have 2 use years and honestly, it is pretty easy. I use the points for different trips to keep them straight. The only way to use the points together is to transfer your points from one membership to the other. I have only done that once and I really don't see myself needing to do it again. You can see them all on the same dashboard.

Pros include: Can get 24 one time use points per contract, transfer to myself is easy

Cons include: Remembering banking deadlines on 2 different UY, not being able to use together without separate reservations and/transferring to myself

I am not sure I would want to go to 3 memberships (use years), but I don't think it would be too big a deal if I decided to do so.

I think as long as you are VERY comfortable with the concept of UY's and how they work, as well as have a way of keeping track of what stays you are booking with what points on which contracts, then go for it! It can get complex but if you feel like you can manage it, ultimately the decision is yours.

There can be a few benefits, such as allowing point transfers for each membership, two waitlists/membership, the ability to purchase OTU points if needed. I think as an unwritten rule, MS will allow you to transfer between your own memberships without limitations, but you can still only transfer current UY points, so you'd have to be careful about your banking or borrowing if you want to do this.

I have 3 contracts (OKW,BWV and Poly) all with an October use year. I find it’s just easier that way. My parents have 3 contracts with 2 different use years and it can be a pain.

We have three UYs and did so to ensure our trips are in the first few months to take advantage of the flexibility if we have to change or cancel.

We travel all times of the year now so it works, But we very rarely transfer, book split stays or book some nights on one and some on the other membership, and just ask to not change rooms,

We have never had to. We have even borrowed when I have points in a different UY…doing all of this does keep it pretty simple.

We have 2 use years, August and February. A majority of our travel is in fall/winter with the August contracts (3) and we bought the February contract for the occasional spring/summer getaway.

We have two use years (april and aug), and I really like these. We usually travel in May and Dec, and these two use years work out great for this. I like having use years that fall before my travel dates, so if we have to cancel, we don't run into as many issues with banking. We usually use our April points for our May trips and august points for our December trips.

I formerly had 2 use years because I got a great deal on a contract. Later when I saw another contract I liked I consolidated back to one use year for simplicity of combining points later. We usually only make one trip per year, so one use year is a little easier to manage.

I would consider a second use year again if it was a great deal on Riviera resale (where the combining points is irrelevant).

But it's not that hard to manage a second use year, you can transfer and combine points, or just use it separately.

I have 4 use years because I was chasing deals. I log into my dvc account about 50 times a day and look at it so it isn’t an issue for me. I find it fun to manage them all. To be clear that is for 4 different resorts. If I buy the same resort, I want the same use year.

Same - 4 UYs made up of 15 contracts with no individual resort in more than 1 UY. It’s been pretty easy to keep everything straight…April UY is VGF used for May trip, June is SS, BLT and BC used for summer and fall trips, Oct UY is VWL/BRV and BWV for our December week and our Dec UY is HHI which we use whenever…

50 times a day?? When do you eat?

I have multiple UY on purpose - FEB for my VGF contracts and AUG for my BWV contracts. It gives me points coverage for the whole year with buffers for banking my points in case of having to cancel a trip. I also wanted contracts near MK and EP/HS and this was the split I came up with.

We have a March UY for our WDW home resort and a Sep UY for our DLR home resort. These are separate based on our travel patterns for each destination.

I have two,
It isn't a huge deal, but Im sure sooner or later I will mess something up and lose out.....
Other than that, my wife also have her own account so transfers are like platinum to us.....

My use years at 6 months (June and Dec) apart so not a deal separate points for separate trips.

Her is in Aug so that becomes fun...

As many PP have expressed, we have 2 UY,,,but we have them at the same resort,,,but we use them to our advantage with time of year travel. Some times we travel March break, others in the fall. I like having time to bank if needed. No issues keeping track.

How did you and your wife happen to have separate accounts with different use years?

4 use years.....haven't had a problem with that yet
I did get some great resale deals
