Multiple Reservations?

Hi everybody, long time lurker first time poster. I have visited Disneyworld 5 times most recently back in May of this year and our family just had a wonderful time! That being said, we've decided to go back in January 2012. We're really excited but have a couple of questions. Looking at the free dining plan, I noticed the only time we can book for a 7 day stay would begin on Jan. 21. Fair enough, but my flight is booked for Jan.20 for the 7 nights. Now I can see that they won't extend the free dining plan for the one night, but I thought what I would do is book a separate night for the 20th and then 6 nights at the free dining plan rate. BTW, I'm planning on staying at PC. Anyways, if I book the reservations separately, do I put the 7 day ticket on my 2nd reservation, and will they know about it? I didn't buy my park tickets directly from WDW in May, so can I still pick them up on the 20th even though I just booked a room? Also, I'll most likely have to check in and out so can I have the meals added on to the keycard?

Yes, you can do a room only for your first night, then start your package with free dining the next day.
If you want to go to the parks the first day, I've heard you can go to a guest relations to get your tickets early. Don't know the details, we've never done it.
And have no idea if they'd split tickets on 1st card, and dining plan on other card? Maybe someone would know, but you will have to juggle 2 cards I think.

Two sepaarate ressies would be necessary, but I'm a bit confused. You stated that you didn't buy your park tickets from Disney?

You have to buy tickets with your free dining reservation. There is a sticky on here that will explain how to pick up your tickets a day early at the parks. That works on a package, because your package will be paid off when you pick up those tickets.

I think when you re-check in on your free dining reservation, you will receive a new card with the dining credits. You can have them put the tickets on your card to have it all in one, or keep the old card with tickets only and keep it separate - up to you.

We have picked up our tickets a day early before, a few different times. You need to do this at a park not at the resort. Everytime we have had the dining plan as well.
