This disease is new to me and my family, I have never heard of it before. My dear sweet MIL, is very close to being confirmed she has this. Just took her now for a bone marrow biopsy (think I spelled that wrong). We will find out the results on May 14th. So far all of her test are pointing to this type of cancer.

Does anyone know anything about this. I have heard it is aggressive. I am praying for my MIL, she is so sweet. Any info on this would be appreciated no matter how bad. Please do not hold back, as we need to know. I have done some research on the net. Alot of overwhelming info out there. Thanks. Kitty

Yes, I know about this type cancer and am sending you a PM.

My mom has MM. Make sure you take her for testing at a really good facility. My mom's doctor in Akron wanted to start her on chemo right away! I didn't think the hospitals in Akron had the most up to date information so I took her to Cleve Clinic. I am so glad I did! There are different stages of MM. She was in a stage that she shouldn't have chemo. We got that diagnosis 3 1/2 years ago and mom is still doing well. I take her Tuesday for her check up at Cleveland Clinic. For something this serious GET A 2ND OPINION!!!

My Mom had MM. I really hate those words. Anyway, she was put on oral "chemo" which in her case was heavy duty dosages of Steriods & then she was put on (shoot, can't remember the name of it now...but it was taken off the market years ago due to horrible birth defect problems. Now they can issue this drug but you have to be interviewed & sign all sorts of papers that you're not of child bearing years, yada, yada, yada....) but it didn't help her. She lasted 6 days shy of 1 year. Doctor said she probably had it for years but it was undected. MM is more aggressive in younger people I had read but it got my Mom!

I'm so very sorry that this could be the diagnosis for your MIL. My biggest regret for my Mom was that I didn't talk her into having a shunt installed as soon as possible. She didn't do it till she was having platelet problems & then that surgery nearly killed her. She lost so much blood. After all that pain she endured too & the scare, her shunt was not usable due to all the damage her internal bleeding did. :(

Start rallying up family members who have the same blood type as her to start donating blood because my Mom needed an infusion of blood every few days. I had the same blood type as my Mom (so does my DH) but our antibodies didn't match (?) I don't understand about that stuff but I'm sure your Mom's Doctor can explain it all to you.

Some great info here, Kitty. I myself have no additional input, but know well you mom will be remembered in my prayers, best wishes to her, and also to your mom, TC.
